Senior Day
Tuesday is the regular-season finale of the 2018-19 season and that means it is Senior Day. The UNH men's basketball program will honor five seniors before opening tipoff vs. Maine; they are captains Jordan Reed and David Watkins, as well as team managers Braeden Estes, Mike Stefanelli and Ben Couture.
The Matchup vs. Maine
UNH has tipped off against Maine more times than any other opponent in program history – 181 times dating back to the 1915-16 season – with the Black Bears holding a 108-73 advantage. The home team has won each of the last four matchups. UNH has won four straight meetings in Lundholm Gym. New Hampshire has a 13-15 record against Maine under head coach Bill Herrion.
The State of New Hampshire
UNH has a 4-24 overall record that includes 3-10 at home and 2-13 in America East (1-6 in conference home games). The Wildcats went 1-1 in two road games last week with a 62-58 win vs. UAlbany (Feb. 27) and 56-53 loss at UMBC (March 2).
The victory ended an 11-game losing streak that spanned Jan. 12 to Feb. 21.
New Hampshire's previous win was a 68-64 win against UMass Lowell at Lundholm Gym on Jan. 9. That win also ended an 11-game losing streak.
UNH's 2018-19 season will come to an end Tuesday, March 5 with the Wildcats' Senior Day game vs. Maine.
UNH has scored more than 62 points twice in 15 America East conference games – Feb. 16 vs. Stony Brook (66-64 loss) as well as the 68 in the aforementioned win against UMass Lowell. The Wildcats have scored below 60 points in 10 of 15 conference games (that includes four games less than 50).
Developing the Playoff Picture
UNH is the odd-team out in the nine-team, eight playoff team America East. The Wildcats were eliminated from a conference tourney berth following Saturday's 56-53 loss at UMBC. Playoff hopes had remained alive prior to tipoff with Maine's loss to Binghamton.
New Hampshire and Maine would finish tied for eighth place if UNH defeats the Black Bears on Tuesday night, but Maine wins the tiebreaker.
The teams remain deadlocked after the first tiebreaker (head-to-head).
The teams also remain deadlocked after the second tiebreaker (record vs. conference standings in descending order; both UNH and Maine have one win against UMass Lowell and UAlbany).
Maine wins the third tiebreaker: conference road wins. The Black Bears have two road wins (UMass Lowell and UAlbany) in comparison to UNH's one road win (UAlbany).
