Six-Game Road Trip Ends With 19-7 Loss at Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Rylee Leonard (Coventry, R.I.) recorded two goals and an assist in the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team's 19-7 loss to Vanderbilt University at the VU Lacrosse Complex on Wednesday afternoon.
Devan Miller (Bristol, R.I.) was the other Wildcat who recorded multiple points with two goals. Issy Torres (Elmhurst, Ill.) made five saves.
Elise Chandler (Hopkinton, Mass.) had a team-high three caused turnovers and tied for the team lead in ground balls with three. Meghan Doyle (Pittsford, N.Y.) and Teagan Northrup (Longmeadow, Mass.) also tallied three GBs. Caroline Hernon (Hampton, N.H.) finished with three draw controls, two ground balls and one caused turnover.
VU was led offensively by Emily Mathewson (4g, 3a) and Hadley Brown (2g, 3a). Starting goalie Lily Argyle stopped 9 of 15 shots on goal to earn the win; she exited the game with the home team leading 14-6 at18:32 of the second half. Madison Foglio stopped all four shots on goal she faced in 11:02 and G Bell made two saves with one goal allowed in the final 7:30.
UNH went 4-2 on its six-game road trip and is now 4-3 overall. Vandy improved to 6-1, including 3-0 at home.

- UNH begins a three-game homestand March 17 against Iona College. Game time at Wildcat Stadium is 12 p.m.
- The Wildcats then play host to both Binghamton University (March 23; 12 p.m.) for the America East conference opener and conclude the homestand March 30 (1 p.m.) against the University of Hartford.
FIRST HALF
- Leonard struck first to give New Hampshire a 1-0 lead at 27:17.
- It was a short-lived lead, however, as the Commodores scored three goals in 32 seconds to quickly transform a one-goal deficit into a 3-1 lead at 26:27. Furlong tied the score 18 seconds after Leonard's tally, then Elizabeth Scarrone and Brown scored in 16 second increments.
- Vanderbilt extended its run to six consecutive goals to build a 6-1 advantage at 19:55.
- Leonard netted her second goal of the game at 19:12 and Catherine Sexton (Niskayuna, N.Y.) finished a feed from Julia Neyland (Boxborough, Mass.) to lift the 'Cats within 6-3 at 16:18.
- VU once again had a quick reply as Gwyn Devin scored 20 seconds later to fuel a 5-0 run that pushed the margin to 11-3 at 10:22.
- Gabby Masseur (Nashua, N.H.) made it 11-4 with her unassisted goal at 8:55.
- The Commodores closed the scoring with 1:31 on the clock to take an eight-goal lead into halftime.
SECOND HALF
- Hernon controlled the opening draw of the second half and that led to Miller's unassisted tally at 28:51.
- VU's Devin potted her second of the game 17 seconds later, but then UNH's Devan (Miller) scored her second goal of the game at 26:13 to advance the score to 13-6.
- Vanderbilt's Callie Sundin extended the lead to double digits, 16-6, at 12:43.
- Teagan Northrup (Longmeadow, Mass.) converted Leonard's pass into a goal to close the scoring with 18 seconds remaining.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- UNH, which entered the week No. 10 in the nation in clear percentage (.891), succeeded in 14 of 15 clear attempts (93.3%).
- Leonard extended her goal and point streaks to six games; she also has six straight games with multiple points, including each of the last four with multiple goals.
- Leonard fired a team-high eight shots – all on goal.
- Miller extended her goal and point streaks to seven games and she has scored multiple goals in six straight.
- Sexton has scored a goal all seven games this season.
- Sexton, who entered the game No. 1 in the nation with a .833 shooting percentage, scored on 1 of 3 shots Wednesday.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Most of the overall stats were relatively even. Vanderbilt finished with a 26-25 edge in shots, including 24-22 on goal. VU also had the advantage in ground balls (24-20) and draw controls (15-12).
- UNH committed one less turnover (19-20).
- UNH was 0-for-2 on free position shots. The Commodores did not score on their only free-position shot.
- Thirteen VU players scored a goal and 14 recorded a point. Nine tallied multiple points, including five with multiple goals.
SERIES NOTEBOOK
- UNH has a 4-11 lifetime record against Vanderbilt.
This was the first meeting between the Wildcats and Commodores since March 2012, when the 'Cats prevailed 12-11 in Durham.
