Lai Leads 'Cats in Setback vs. Stony Brook

DURHAM, N.H. – Senior guard Brittni Lai (Irvington, N.Y.) scored 20 points to lead the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team on Saturday afternoon, but the Wildcats came up short against Stony Brook and lost 62-56 on Senior Day in Lundholm Gymnasium.
UNH is now 17-11 overall and 8-7 in America East with just one game remaining in the regular season. The Wildcats play at UMass Lowell on Thursday night at 7. Stony Brook is also 17-11 overall and improved to 9-6 in the league to take sole possession of fourth place in the standings.
Senior forward Olivia Healy (Reading, Mass.) had 13 points and nine rebounds for the Wildcats and senior center Carlie Pogue (Cincinnati, Ohio) had 11 points and seven rebounds.

The Wildcats are down to their final game of the regular season.
They play at UMass Lowell on Thursday night at 7.
The quarterfinals and semifinals of the America East tournament are scheduled for Saturday, March 3 and Sunday, March 4 at Cross Insurance Arena in Portland, Maine. Tickets for the games in Portland are available at www.crossarenaportland.com.
The America East championship game will be played Friday, March 9 at the home of the top remaining seed in the tournament. The games in Portland will be on ESPN3 and the title game will be on ESPNU.
HIGHLIGHTS
Lai hit the 20-point mark for the third time this season and first since early January. She had 20 points in a 66-53 loss at Albany on Jan. 6 and had a season-high 24 points in a 68-55 win over Manhattan on Dec. 9. Her career high of 31 points came last year against Bryant.
Lai had a season-high in three-point shots made with three in eight attempts.
Healy had UNH's other two three-point baskets in the game. She attempted four.
Lai led the Wildcats to a four-point lead at halftime.
Her three-pointer, fast-break layup and drive for a basket accounted for a personal 7-0 run midway through the second period and gave UNH a 24-18 lead.
Pogue scored the team's last six points of the half on shots from in close and it was 33-29 at the break.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Stony Brook outscored UNH 15-10 in the third period to take a 44-43 lead with one quarter to play.
A couple of Healy foul shots with 4:35 left cut a Stony Brook lead down to 52-50. A Lai layup and foul shot made it 57-54 Stony Brook with 1:16 to play.
Senior Kat Fogarty (Westminster, Mass.) drew a charge at the other end.
But the Wildcats missed their next field goal attempt and had to foul.
The Seawolves made five of six free throws in the last 25 seconds to put the game away.
