Healy, Lai Pace 'Cats in Final Pre-Tourney Test

LOWELL, Mass. – Senior forward Olivia Healy (Reading, Mass.) and senior guard Brittni Lai (Irvington, N.Y.) had huge games to lead the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team to a dominant second-half rally and 70-49 win over UMass Lowell on Thursday night in the Tsongas Center.
UNH closed out the regular season with an 18-11 overall record and 9-7 mark in America East.
The Wildcats now await their opponent in the America East playoffs that begin with the quarterfinals and semifinals on Saturday, March 3 and Sunday, March 4 in the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland, Maine.
Healy had 19 points and 12 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season. Lai had 18 points, six assists, five rebounds and five steals.
The Wildcats trailed 37-30 with 7:01 left in the third period and cranked up the defense and went on a 14-0 run that eventually expanded into a 37-7 stretch that put them in complete control of the game.

The Wildcats are in fifth place in the league standings and now wait to find out their matchup in the America East tournament. The rest of the league's teams play their final regular season games Sunday.
The quarterfinals and semifinals of the America East tournament are scheduled for Saturday, March 3 and Sunday, March 4 at Cross Insurance Arena in Portland, Maine. Tickets for the games in Portland are available at www.crossarenaportland.com.
The America East championship game will be played Friday, March 9 at the home of the top remaining seed in the tournament. The games in Portland will be on ESPN3 and the title game will be on ESPNU.
HIGHLIGHTS
Healy, Lai and senior Carlie Pogue (Cincinnati, Ohio) combined for 54 of UNH's points and 23 of the team's 42 rebounds and fueled a dominating second half.
Pogue finished with 17 points and six rebounds.
Healy's double-double was her third in America East play. Her most recent was a 13-point, 10-rebound effort in a 54-52 win over Binghamton in Durham on January 27. Her 12 rebounds were a season-high and matched her career best as a Wildcat.
Lai did a lot of everything in filling the scorebook. She was coming off a 20-point game against Stony Brook. She made eight of her 13 field goals. Lai had 12 of her points in the first half and five of her assists and four of her steals in the second half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The River Hawks owned an 18-15 lead after one period and were up 28-23 at the half.
When the teams played in Durham on Jan. 15, UMass Lowell led 25-22 at the half. UNH took control of that game with a 21-12 third quarter and broke it open with a 23-8 fourth en route to a 66-45 win.
Thursday's game followed a similar pattern.
UNH's defense was impressive from early in the third quarter on. The River Hawks had 37 points with seven minutes left in the third period. They scored only 12 points in the final 17 minutes of the game.
UMass Lowell did not have a field goal in the last seven minutes of the third period and only one in the first nine minutes of the fourth period.
UNH outscored the River Hawks 44-20 in the second half in the first game this season and the margin was 47-22 on Thursday night.
