Pogue, Healy Lead 'Cats to Win at UMBC

BALTIMORE, Md. - Senior center Carlie Pogue (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored 16 points and senior forward Olivia Healy (Reading, Mass.) added 14 to lead the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team to a 51-46 win over UMBC on Sunday afternoon at the UMBC Events Center.
UNH improves to 16-10 overall and 7-6 in America East. The Wildcats play Hartford on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Lundholm Gymnasium in their Education Day game.
The Wildcats and Stony Brook are tied for fourth place in the league at 7-6. Maine and Albany are tied for first at 10-3 and Binghamton is third at 8-4. Hartford is just behind UNH and Stony Brook at 6-6.
The Wildcats led 47-46 with a minute to play and held off the Retrievers down the stretch. Pogue made a pair of foul shots with 14 seconds left and senior guard Brittni Lai (Irvington, N.Y.) followed suit with a pair of free throws with five seconds left to seal the win.
UNH had six turnovers in the game, its second lowest total of the season.
NEXT UP
The Wildcats have only three regular season games remaining, the next two at home.
After Wednesday's Education Day game vs. Hartford, UNH plays Stony Brook at home on Saturday at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
The Wildcats close out the regular season with a game at UMass Lowell on Thursday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m.

The Wildcats completed a season series sweep of the Retrievers. They came from behind in the fourth period to win the first meeting, 56-51, in Durham on Jan. 3.
UNH trailed 7-6 after the first period on Sunday and was still down a point, 23-22, at the half.
The Wildcats used a third period surge to open a 40-33 lead after three periods. Healy had nine of her points in the third period and UNH went on a 9-0 run to end the quarter.
Pogue made a jumper and added a foul shot and the lead was at 47-41 with 3:52 left in the fourth period.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Retrievers made things interesting at the end. Brittani Burgess cut the UNH lead to 47-46 with a three-point play with a minute left in the game.
After UNH missed a field goal, UMBC missed a couple of its own chances before Wildcat senior forward Kat Fogarty (Westminster, Mass.) pulled down a defensive rebound.
Pogue made a pair of foul shots for 49-46 with 14 seconds left. UMBC missed a three-pointer to tie and a followup layup and Lai got the rebound. Her two foul shots finished it off.
Lai was the third Wildcat in double figures with 11 points and added four rebounds and three assists.
