Martinez's Game-High 15 Points Leads 'Cats Past Rivier, 108-54

DURHAM, N.H. – Freshman forward Jayden Martinez (Cibolo, Texas) led four University of New Hampshire players in double digits with a game-high 15 points to lead the UNH mens' basketball team to Tuesday night's 108-54 season-opening win against Rivier University at Lundholm Gym.
Martinez made 7 of 9 field goal attempts, including 1 of 2 3-pointers, to finish with 15 points. He also had five rebounds, two assists and a block in 15 minutes off the bench.
Junior forward Luke Rosinski (Derry, N.H.) recorded his first career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds in 13 minutes off the bench. He made five of his seven field goal attempts.
Freshman forward Nick Guadarrama (Newington, Conn.) shot 6 of 8 from the floor, including a pair of 3's, for 14 points. His other stats included six rebounds, two steal, an assist and one block in 21 minutes off the bench.
Junior guard Mark Carbone (Wethersfield, Conn.) shot 3-for-5 from 3-point range and 4-for-6 from the floor overall to score 12 points in his Wildcat debut. He also had four assists and two rebounds in 19 minutes off the bench.
UNH is 1-0, while this enters the record book as an exhibition game for Division III Rivier.

THE DIFFERENCE
- UNH shot 60.3 percent from the floor (41-for-68) compared to Rivier's 32.2 percent (19-59). Part of that was UNH's 48-18 scoring advantage in the paint.
- The 'Cats controlled the boards with a 53-22 rebounding advantage.
- The Wildcats' bench outscored Rivier's 74-15.
- New Hampshire shot 44.8 percent (13-29) from 3-point range while the Raiders shot 29.2 percent (7-24).
GAME RECAP
- Chris Lester (Barrington, Ill.), in his first career start, scored the first points of the game on a mid-range jumper at 18:53 and UNH led wire-to-wire.
- At the first media timeout (15:54), UNH led 8-2 and went on an 18-0 run to extend the advantage to 26-2 on a jumper by Martinez at 10:41.
- Isiah Marks' 3-pointer put Rivier into double digits at 4:28 to make the score 41-12.
- New Hampshire closed the half on an 11-6 spurt to take a 52-18 lead into the locker room.
- The Wildcats led by as many as 58 points, 101-43, when Carbone drained a 3-pointer with five minutes to play.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- UNH won its season opener for the fourth consecutive year.
- The 'Cats have won 12 straight home openers.
- This was the first ever meeting between the New Hampshire and Rivier men's basketball programs.
- Twelve of the 13 Wildcats played double-digit minutes.
- Josh Hopkins (Greensboro, N.C.), the team's top returning scorer at 7.5 ppg last season, scored seven points and had a team-high six assists in 19 minutes.
- Jordan Reed (Lucas, Texas) hit 3 of 4 3-pointers to finish with nine points in 13 minutes.
- Lester shot a perfect 3-for-3 from the floor to finish with seven points; he also grabbed six boards in 14 minutes.
- In addition to Martinez, Guadarrama and Martinez, Marque Maultsby (Raleigh, N.C.), David Hall (Bucyrus, Ohio) and Nate Hobbs (Peabody, Mass.) made their Wildcat debuts.
- Maultsby finished with eight points, three rebounds, one assist, a steal and a block in 10 minutes. Hall had four points and five rebounds in 15 minutes. Hobbs tallied two points, two rebounds and an assist in eight minutes.
- Starting point guard Elijah Jordan (Orlando, Fla.) tallied nine points, two asssits, two rebounds, two blocks and a steal in 23 minutes.
- After redshirting the 2017-18 season, Kijana Love (Cibolo, Texas) made both 3-point attempts as part of an eight-point performance. His other stats included three assists and two rebounds.
- David Watkins (Dorchester, Mass.), in his first start since the 2016-17 season, finished with two points, four rebounds and an assist in 15 minutes.
- This is the fourth consecutive season UNH has topped 100 points. The Wildcats scored 111 last year vs. Lyndon State, 103 in double OT at UMBC in January 2017 and 100 against Worcester State in December 2015.
