Hopkins' 15 Points Leads Balanced Attack Past Mount Saint Vincent, 100-61

DURHAM, N.H. – Sophomore guard Josh Hopkins (Greensboro, N.C.) led the Wildcats against College of Mount Saint Vincent with 15 points in the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team's 100-61 win in Lundholm Gym on Monday afternoon.
Hopkins played 20 minutes and made 5 of 9 field goal attempts, including two 3-pointers, to lead five Wildcat double-digit scorers with a game-high 15 points. He also had six rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Freshman forward Jayden Martinez (Cibolo, Texas) followed with 14 points by shooting 6-for-11, including 1 of 3 on 3-pointers. He also had a game-high eight rebounds, team-high three assists and two steals.
Nick Guadarrama (Newington, Conn.), another freshman forward, also had an impressive performance with 13 points, going 6-for-6 on free throws and sinking 1 of 3 3-pointers. Senior forward David Watkins (Dorchester, Mass.) and freshman guard Marque Maultsby (Raleigh, N.C.) scored 10 points apiece. Watkins also pulled down six rebounds.
MSV was led by Mamadou Mariko (11 points) and Jason Barrera (10).
UNH improved to 2-0 at home and 2-1 overall. This is officially an exhibition game for MSV.

- New Hampshire returns to action Nov. 16 (7 p.m.) in Washington, D.C as they face American University. The Wildcats' next home game is Nov. 20 against Quinnipiac at 7 p.m in Lundholm Gym.

THE DIFFERENCE
- UNH shot 47.3 percent from the floor (35-for-74) compared to Mount Saint Vincent's 38.6 percent (17-44). Part of that was UNH's 40-20 scoring advantage in the paint.
- The Wildcats led 42-28 at halftime and pushed the margin to 21 points, 51-30, with a 9-2 run in the opening 2:38 of the second half. The 'Cats continued to pull away the remainder of the game.
GAME RECAP
- Sophomore guard Elijah Jordan (Orlando, Fla.) got the Wildcats off to a good start with a 3-pointer just 55 seconds into play.
- The Dolphins tied the score, 8-8, at 17:07, but junior forward Chris Lester (Barrington, Ill.) answered with a layup to give New Hampshire a lead it would not relinquish the rest of the way.
- Three and a half minutes into the first half, Hopkins sank two free throws to bring the Wildcats to 12-8 at the first media timeout.
- With 12:48 to go in the first half, Martinez kept the momentum going for New Hampshire with a 3-pointer to give the Wildcats a 20-15 lead. Another impressive 3-pointer from junior Mark Carbone (Wethersfield, Conn.) got the Wildcats to 23-15 at the second media timeout.
- The Wildcats began pulling away from the Dolphins with a 19-13 run in the last 10 minutes of the first half, going into the second half at 42-28.
- The Wildcats continued their push in the second half, where in the first three minutes they went on a 9-2 run.
- At the first media timeout of the second half (at 15:51), New Hampshire led MSV, 57- 33.
- In just five minutes – from 17 to 12 minutes on the clock – the Wildcats put up an impressive 19-6 run to push the margin to 70-37. A notable 3-pointer from Guadarrama and a pair of driving layups by Maultsby contributing to the spurt.
- The differential reached 40 points, 82-42, at 7:22 and peaked at 42 points, 96-54 and 97-55.
- With 22 seconds left in the game, freshman Nate Hobbs (Peabody, Mass.) hit a pair of foul shots to score the 100th point for the Wildcats, who ended the game winning 100-61 against the Dolphins.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The 'Cats controlled the boards with a 51-30 rebounding advantage. That included a 19-2 edge on the offensive glass, which generated a 26-2 edge in second-chance points.
- New Hampshire shot 36.7 percent (11-30) from 3-point range while the Dolphins shot 26.7 percent (4-15).
- UNH has made double-digit 3-pointers all three games this season.
- MSV went 23-for-36 from the foul line. UNH made 19 of 31 free throws.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- New Hampshire has scored 100+ points twice this season – the 'Cats netted 108 points in the opener against Rivier University. The last time UNH scored 100+ points multiple times in a single season was 1994-95 (104-97 win at Hofstra University; 113-11 double overtime win vs. University of Delaware).
