The Wildcats outshot their first opponent of the season, but messy goal gives Friars the victory.

DURHAM, N.H. – After outshooting the opponent 30-19, the University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team fell to the Providence College Friars by a score of 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.

The Wildcats held the shot advantage for the entire contest, holding the Friars to under 10 shots every period. New Hampshire found itself with several scoring chances throughout the game, but due to a bouncing puck or missed shot, the Wildcats were held scoreless for just the second time this season.

Sophomore goaltender Ava Boutilier (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island) played strong in net for the 'Cats, and was well protected by her defense as she only faced 19 shots in the contest; but a bad rebound led to scrum in the crease and a Friar forward was able to poke it through for the game-winning goal late in the third.

The 'Cats return to action this Friday, November 2^nd when they travel to Vermont for a two game series. Both games are at 2 P.M. on Friday and Saturday.

GAME RECAP

New Hampshire had two power play opportunities in the first, one early in the first eight minutes, and the other late in the period that spilled over into the second. They tallied six shots on those power plays.
The 'Cats then killed two penalties in the second, after one in the first, allowing just one shot on each kill. New Hampshire outshot Providence 21-11 in the first two periods alone.
Providence narrowed the shot deficit in the third, and were able to get a goal off a scrum in the crease in front of Ava Boutilier; after an initial shot by Providence's Sara Hjalmarsson, the rebound was charged by a group of skaters; the first Friar to the pile was Maureen Murphy, who was able to sneak the puck through the pile of sticks and tally the first score of the game 15:26 into the third period.
The Wildcats got a power play opportunity just seconds after the goal; they put three shots on target on the power play but were unable to equalize.
After scoring three extra-attacker goals in as many games, the Wildcats tried one more time for the final 1:46 of regulation, but Providence held off the attack.
