A defensive battle for two periods, both goalies end the game with at least 25 saves.
BURLINGTON, Vt. – The University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team fell to the University of Vermont Catamounts by a score of 1-0 on Friday afternoon.
UNH outshot Vermont 11-8 in the final period, after putting another 11 shots on their goalkeeper in the second, but a late power play goal from the Catamounts tipped the game in their favor.
Senior captain Kyra Smith (Littleton, Colo.) got the start in net and kept the 'Cats in the game after facing nine shots in the first period and 11 in the second, stopping all 20 of them. A late power play goal in the third just got enough of the crossbar to bounce down and into the net, as she suffers her second loss of the season.
The two teams will face off again on Saturday, November 3 at 2 P.M., wrapping up their regular season series.

GAME RECAP

- UNH got its first power play opportunity in the second period and fired off five shots on net, but were unable to break through.
- A Vermont power play followed and the Wildcats were able to get a quality short-handed opportunity with the UVM goaltender out of position but a Catamount defender was able to block the open net and keep the game scoreless.
- The first and only goal of the game came 5:40 into the third period on a Vermont power play. Just seconds into the power play a Catamount shot hit the crossbar and when in, giving Vermont a 1-0 lead.
- The Wildcats committed a costly penalty with just over two minutes left, but a Vermont penalty not too long after gave UNH new life with a 4-on-4. After pulling the goaltender, the Wildcats got some traffic in front of the net but were unable to equalize.
