'Cats Downed By Maine, 5-3

UNH gets an extra-attacker goal, but the following empty-netter clinches it for Maine.
ORONO, Maine – Freshman forward Paige Rynne (Ancaster, Ontario) tallied her first career goal, and teammates Meghara McManus (Milton, Mass.) and Taylor Wenczkowski (Rochester, N.H.) added in goals of their own, but the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team fell at Maine by a final score of 5-3 on Friday evening.
A total of four goals were scored in the first period, with the teams locked at a 2-2 draw at first intermission. Maine tallied goals in the second and third before a late, extra-attacker goal gave the 'Cats new life in the final minute. As they went for another, Maine sealed the game with an empty-netter.

GAME RECAP
- Maine struck first early in the first period, on a goal from Michelle Weis just two and a half minutes into the game.
- Halfway through the period Maine extended their lead with a power play goal from Vendula Pribylova. It was the first power play goal allowed by the Wildcats all season.
- It only took UNH two minutes to respond to the power play goal, as Meghara McManus netted an unassisted play to cut the lead to one.
- The 'Cats got a power play goal of their own 17 minutes into the period from Paige Rynne, assisted by Carlee Turner (Scottsdale, Ariz.).
- Maine tallied the lone goal in the second period to regain the lead.
- Four minutes into the third, Maine scored another even-strength goal to try and put the game out of reach.
- The 'Cats would end up scoring late on an extra-attacker goal, their third in as many games, with the final shot coming from Taylor Wenczkowski, assisted by Devan Taylor (North Billerica, Mass.) and Lauren Martin (Cambridge, Ontario). The goal came 19:18 into the third period.
