HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless first period, the Catamounts took a 1-0 lead at 3:25 of the first period on a goal by Anthony Petruzelli, his second of the season. The play was a result of Drew Best taking a shot on goal that Danny Tirone initially saved, but Petruzzelli jammed the puck into the net under the arm of Tirone.
Vermont took a 2-0 lead at 4:52 of the second period while on a power play. Brian Bowen scored his eighth of the year with assists coming to Ross Colton and Matt O'Donnell.
Kelleher brought the Wildcats to within one goal while on a power play, scoring his 17th of the season and 50th of his career at 6:27 of the second. Senior captain Matias Cleland (Longmont, Colo.) initiated the play with a pass behind the net to junior Michael McNicholas (Manhattan, Beach, Calif.). McNicholas found Kelleher to the right of UVM goalie Stefanos Lekkas who put the puck away.
Salvaggio tied the game at 2-2 at the 2:18 mark of the third period with his 17th goal of the season. Junior blueliner Cameron Marks (North Vancouver, British Columbia) started the play with a pass into the neutral zone to Kelleher from behind the net. Kelleher found Salvaggio just over the blueline in the UVM zone and unleashed a shot that went into the top left corner of the net.
Wyse gave UNH a 3-2 lead at 8:26 of the third period with the first goal of his career. Classmate Brendan van Riemsdyk (Middletown, N.J.) fed the puck to sophomore Marcus Vela (Burnaby, British Columbia) down low to the right of Lekkas. He played a pass to Wyse at the point who fired a shot in on net. The puck took a redirect off a Catamount player and found its way into the net.
UNH closed out the scoring with 0.4 seconds left on the clock in the third period on an empty net goal by Kelleher for his second of the night. Salvaggio assisted him on the play.
