The Series : UNH vs. Holy Cross
- This will be the first meeting between the Wildcats and the Crusaders in women's hockey.
- The Wildcats are 0-0-1 at home this season, the Crusaders have only played on the road so far this season.
THE STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE
- UNH enters the weekend with an unbeaten record, tying Merrimack last Friday at home, 1-1, and beating the Warriors in North Andover, 3-1 on Saturday.
- The Wildcats are perfect on the penalty kill so far, killing off five opponent penalties like weekend.
- New Hampshire is averaging 2.00 goals per game while allowing 1.00.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
- Senior defensemen Amy Schlagel (Blaine, Minn.) and Julia Fedeski (Algonquin Highlands, Ontario) were both drafted to NWHL teams this offseason, Schlagel going 18th overall to the Buffalo Beauts, and Fedeski going 20th overall to the Boston Pride.
- Both Schlagel and Fedeski scored in UNH's 3-1 victory over Merrimack; Schlagel had the game winner on a snipe from the blue line, and Fedeski capped off the victory with an empty netter in the third.
- Junior defensmen and captain Marie-Jo Pelletier (Dalhousie, New Brunswick) is on a five-game points streak dating all the way back to UNH's playoff series with BU in the 2016-17 season. She tallied an assist in each game with Merrimack last weekend.
- Sophomore center Taylor Wenczkowski (Rochester, N.H.) kicked off the season in the score column for the Wildcats, scoring the first goal of the season for UNH, scoring on the power play 9:31 into the first period of the opening game. She also tallied an assist on the game-winning goal at Merrimack the following afternoon.
- Sophomore Nicole Dunbar ( Coto de Caza, Calif.) starting the scoring rush in game two against Merrimack, scoring 17 minutes into the period, and setting the tone for Schalgel's game winner, which came just 21 seconds later.
BOUTILIER WINS DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
- Freshman goaltender Ava Boutilier (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island) started the first two games for the Wildcats, and has a 1-0-1 record in her first two career starts. Against Merrimack she stoped 55 of 57 shots faced for a .965 save percentage and a 0.96 GAA. The performance earned her the title of Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week.
SCOUTING HOLY CROSS
- The Holy Cross Crusaders have played only two non-exhibiton contests this year, entering the weekend with a 0-1-1 record.
- Last weekend the Crusaders traveled to RIT and tied the season opener 2-2, before falling in game two on Saturday, 3-2.
- Holy Cross has three players who have scored two points on the season; Maeve Reilly has two goals, Julie Matthias has one goal and one assist, and Hannah Gillis has two assists.
- Holy Cross averages 2.00 goals per game, while giving up 2.50 per game. Shots per game are at an even 28.5 attempted for both Holy Cross and their opponents.
- Freshman goaltender Julia Pelletier started the first game of the season, stopping 26 shots and allowing two goals in the season-opening tie with RIT. She has a .923 save% and a 1.85 GAA.
- Senior goaltender Tessie Salatas started game two against RIT, stopping 31 shots but letting in three in the 3-2 loss. She has a .903 save% and 3.00 GAA.
WELCOME TO HOCKEY EAST
- The Holy Cross Crusaders will be joining the Hockey East conference starting in the 2018-19 season after playing in the ECAC, division III conferences, and most recently playing as an independent in women's hockey.
RETURN OF VAN BUSKIRK
- Holy Cross head coach Peter Van Buskirk enters his 18th season as the head coach of Holy Cross women's ice hockey.
- Van Buskirk graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1965 as a three-sport athlete.
- In 2001, Van Buskirk was inducted into the UNH hall of fame for all three sports: football, baseball, and ice hockey.
