Fogarty, 'Cats Run Win Streak to 12; Now 8-0 in League

DURHAM, N.H. – Junior forward Kat Fogarty (Westminster, Mass.) scored 12 points and added 11 rebounds to rally the red-hot University of New Hampshire women's basketball team to its 12th straight win, a 60-50 decision over UMBC on Saturday afternoon in Lundholm Gymnasium.
The league-leading Wildcats improved to 18-3 overall and 8-0 in America East, which are both the best marks in program history.
It was Fogarty's second double-double of the season and third of her career. Junior center Carlie Pogue (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored 16 points and junior guard Olivia Healy added 11 points and seven rebounds. Junior guard Aliza Simpson (Londonderry, N.H.) matched her season-high with three three-point baskets.

The Wildcats play two games on the road before returning to Lundholm Gymnasium on Thursday, Jan. 9 to take on Vermont at 7 p.m. UNH plays at Stony Brook on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 5 p.m. and at Albany on Monday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m.

HIGHLIGHTS
UNH trailed 37-32 after three periods and for the sixth time this season rallied in the fourth quarter to win.
The Wildcats dug out of a deep hole early and clamped down on defense in the third period to continue their comeback. They had a whopping 50-29 edge in rebounds.
The Retrievers made 12 of their 26 field goals in the first half. They made only one of their 13 field goal attempts in the third period and five of 29 in the second half.
Simpson nailed her third trey of the game 35 seconds into the fourth period to give UNH its first lead since the opening period at 38-37.
The Retrievers took the lead back with a pair of foul shots.
It was all UNH after that.
The Wildcats went back on top on a Fogarty layup off a pass from Kristen Anderson (Greene, Maine). Anderson added a three-pointer and a bucket and soon after that Fogarty hit another layup to ignite a 9-0 and 17-2 UNH run that put the game away.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Retrievers didn't miss early and made eight of their 13 shots to lead 21-10 after the first period.
UNH outscored the visitors in each period after that: 17-11 in the second period, 8-5 in the third and then 25-13 in the fourth.
The Wildcats, who lead the league in rebounding margin, improved their numbers with the 50-29 advantage on the boards. Sophomore forward Ashley Storey (Cumberland, Maine) and junior guard Peyton Booth (Wadsworth, Ohio) each had six rebounds to add to a strong and balanced team rebounding performance.
The Wildcats, who came into the game second in the league in free throw percentage (72.5) made only 12 of their 20 foul shots.
