Magarity's 100th Win Sets Record, Moves 'Cats to 5-0 in League

DURHAM, N.H. – Junior guards Olivia Healy (Reading, Mass.) and Brittni Lai (Irvington, N.Y.) and junior center Carlie Pogue (Cincinnati, Ohio) combined for 45 points to lead the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team to a record ninth straight win, 50-44, over Maine on Thursday night.
The win gave UNH coach Maureen Magarity the 100th victory of her career. Magarity is in her seventh season as head coach and has an overall mark of 100-97.
The Wildcats improved to 15-3 overall, which is the program's best-ever start to a season. UNH is 5-0 in America East. The Wildcats had never before won their first five league games.
Healy had 16 points and four rebounds, Lai had 15 points and Pogue scored 14 to go with a game-high nine rebounds.

The Wildcats play their You Can Play game against Hartford at home on Sunday, Jan. 22 at 1 p.m. on ESPN3 on Alumni Day. An Alumni Game, open to all former Wildcats, will be played Sunday at 10 a.m.

HIGHLIGHTS
Maine guard Sigi Koizar made a long jump shot to tie the game at 35-35 just over a minute into the fourth period.
UNH, which had led since the game was last tied at 2-2, answered the challenge.
Healy nailed a three-pointer late in the shot clock, scored on a putback and hit a foul shot for six straight points.
After a Maine basket, the Wildcats ran off six more points in a row to open the lead to 47-37 with 3:16 to play.
The Black Bears got it back to 47-42 on a Koizar three-pointer with 1:38 left.
The Wildcats clamped down on defense and pushed it back to 50-42 on a drive down the middle by Lai with 32 seconds left.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Wildcats got off to a nice start and, led by Lai and Healy, grabbed a 17-13 lead after one period. Lai had seven points in the period and Healy had six.
Each team scored four points in a ragged second period, leaving the 'Cats up 21-17 at the half.
Lai had nine points in the first half. Healy had six points and three rebounds and Pogue four points and six rebounds.
UNH led by as many as six points in the third period, but at the end Maine had cut it to 35-33.
The Wildcats took charge in the fourth.
