8-1-0 ‘Cats Start Conference Play with UMBC Friday (7 PM)

DURHAM, N.H. – The 8-1-0 University of New Hampshire men's soccer team is set to begin the America East Conference portion of the schedule with a game on Friday, Sept. 30 against UMBC at home. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Bremner Field.
SCOUTING UNH: The Wildcats are coming off their fourth consecutive win after defeating Yale University, 3-0, on Saturday, Sept. 24 at home. Sophomore forward Chris Arling (Windham, N.H.) notched a career-high five points on a pair of goals and an assist while freshman Jack Dickson (Bournemouth, England) tallied three points with a goal and an assist. Sophomore keeper Andrew Pesci (Windham, N.H.) made three saves in the game to preserve the shutout.
EARNING THE ACCOLADES: Chris Arling was not only named the America East Player of the Week (Sept. 26) after having nine points in two games the week before (4g, 1a), but was also named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week. Dickson was tabbed the AE Rookie of the Week for the second straight week after recording six points in two games on two goals and two assists.
CURRENT STREAKS: Andrew Pesci and the Wildcats have not relinquished a goal in 393:57, including four straight shutouts. Over the last four contests, UNH is outscoring opponents 11-0 with four goals in the first half and seven in the second. Pesci has made saves on all 22 shots faced. Dickson has a four-game point streak going with four goals and two assists for 10 points. Senior co-captain Chris Wingate (Hovik, Norway) has three points in his last three games with one goal and two assists while Arling has nine points in his last two games on four goals and an assist.
SCOUTING UMBC: The Retrievers (4-1-3) have won their last three games, including a 2-1 win at La Salle on Saturday, Sept. 24. UMBC's Gregg Hauck struck first in the game in the 34th minute to give the Retrievers a 1-0 advantage, but La Salle tied the game in the 72nd minute to force overtime. Patrick Jean-Gilles recorded the game winner at 96 minute even on the clock to lift UMBC. Goalkeeper Billy Heavner made six saves on seven shots faced in the match.
Tre Pulliam leads the team in points with nine on four goals and one assist. Hauck and Jean-Gilles each have five points, Hauck from one goal and three assists and Jean-Gilles with two goals and one assist.
UP NEXT: The Wildcats hit the road for a pair of games, the first of which will take place at intrastate rival Dartmouth College on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. UNH resumes conference action on Saturday, Oct. 8 at Stony Brook University at 7 p.m. The next home game for UNH is Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 7:30 p.m. against the University at Albany.
