Wildcats Roll Past UMBC, 3-0

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men's soccer team defeated the University of Maryland Baltimore County by a score of 3-0 Friday night at Bremner Field. It was the first victory for the Wildcats over the Retrievers since the 2009 season.

Arling broke the 0-0 tie in the 23rd minute of play as he scored his 10th goal of the season. The play started when Wingate lobbed a cross into the box. Arling leapt above the UMBC defense and headed the ball into the net.
Valencia gave the Wildcats a 2-0 lead in the 44th minute of play on a one-time shot from about six yards out. Doherty came racing down the right side of the field with the ball and laced a pass to the foot of Valencia. Valencia one-timed his shot past UMBC keeper Billy Heavner and into the net.
-- Second Half –
Velazquez notched the third goal of the game in the 76th minute of play to increase the UNH total to 3-0. Wingate, who tallied his second assist of the night on the play, sent a pass across the top of the box to Velazquez, who received it to the left of Heavner. Velazquez dribbled into the box and ripped a shot low and to the right for the goal.
Pesci, who tallied his fifth-consecutive shutout, made four saves in the match with three in the first and one in the second. His shutout streak now stands at 483:57 as he has made 26 saves over that span.
