'Cats Return Home to Face Northeastern Wednesday (7:30 PM)

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men's soccer team returns home for the first time since Aug. 30 when they host Northeastern University on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 7:30 p.m. The game will be played at Wildcat Stadium.
SCOUTING UNH: The 'Cats (6-1-0) are coming off a 2-0-0 weekend in New York as they defeated Colgate University on Friday, Sept. 16 by a score of 3-0 and also Cornell University on Sunday. Sept. 18 by a score of 2-0. Junior goalkeeper Andrew Pesci (Windham, N.H.) who is the reigning America East Player of the Week, made a total of 14 saves on the weekend, including 12 in the first game. He holds a 6-1-0 record with two shutouts, a goals against average of 1.00 and a save percentage of .767.
Freshman Jack Dickson (Bournemouth, England) earned AE Rookie of the Week honors after scoring a pair of goals on the weekend, one in the first game and one in the second. Also scoring for UNH against Colgate was junior Juan Velazquez (San Francisco, Calif.), and sophomore Chris Arling (Windham, N.H.). Senior co-captain Chris Wingate (Hovik, Norway) recorded the first goal of the game against Cornell on Sunday on a penalty kick.
TEAM STATS: The Wildcats are outscoring opponents by a margin of 10 goals (17-7) and are outshooting foes 104-56. The seven goal surrendered by the 'Cats is the second fewest in the conference (UMass Lowell – 5). The Wildcats have also committed the second least amount of fouls in the Conference at 75.
SCOUTING NORTHEASTERN: The Huskies (2-4-0) are coming off a 2-0 win over Drexel University on Saturday, Sept. 17 at home. NU's Christian McKenna scored the first goal of the game in the 18th minute of play while Ackim Mpofu gave the Huskies a 2-0 lead in the 41st minute. Goalkeeper Jonathan Thuresson made saves on all three shots faced in the match. McKenna and Khori Bennett lead the Huskies on offense with three points apiece on a goal and an assist. Mpofu, Daniel Arvidsson and Khesanio Hall each have two points on a goal. Thuresson has seen most of the playing time for NU, making starts in all five games he has played and has a record of 2-3-0 with two shutouts. He has a goals against average of 1.30 and a save percentage of .760.
INSIDE THE SERIES: The Wildcats hold a 18-7-1 lead in the all-time series in 26 matches played. Last season, Riley Ellis (Goffstown, N.H.) scored the game's only goal in the 48th minute of play to ultimately lead New Hampshire to a 1-0 win.
UP NEXT: The Wildcats remain at home for the next two games with a tilt against Yale University on Saturday, Sept. 24 (7 p.m.) and against UMBC on Friday, Sept. 30 (7 p.m.).
