Weekend Road Trip Ends Today at Cornell (1 PM)

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men's soccer team wraps up its five game road stint with a match Friday, Sept. 16 at Colgate University (7 p.m.) and Sunday at Cornell University (1 p.m.).
NEXT HOME GAME: The Wildcats return home for the first time since Aug. 30 with a match against Northeastern University on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium. It is the first of three-consecutive home tilts.
SCOUTING UNH: New Hampshire suffered its first loss of the season (4-1-0) in its last match which took place at Holy Cross by a score of 3-1.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute when Chris Arling (Windham, N.H.) scored his fourth goal in as many games and of the season. Senior co-captain Duff Thomson (Greenfield, N.H.) initiated the play as he sent a pass to William Picoux (Lorient, France). Picoux played a through ball to Arling who received it about 10 yards out and blasted a shot into the net.
Holy Cross got on the board in the 29th minute of play on an own-goal by UNH. The ball was trying to be cleared on a header by the Wildcats, however an unfortunate bounce resulted in the ball going into the net.
In the 52nd minute of play, Holy Cross' Matt Villano notched his third goal of the season to put the Crusaders ahead by a score of 2-1. Villano gained possession of the ball outside of the box and fired a shot from 20 yards out into the upper right corner of the net.
Joey DeVivo gave HC a two-goal advantage in the 57th minute to make the score 3-1. Bobby Barsic sent a pass to DeVivo 12-yards out of the goal who then fired a shot into the lower left corner.
Arling leads the 'Cats with eight points on four goals, all of which have come in his last four matches. Sophomore Alex Valencia (Tracey, Calif.) has five points on two goals and one assist while Picoux and senior co-captain Chris Wingate (Hovik, Norway) each have four points on a goal and two assists. Freshman Ben Gleditsch (Oslo, Norway) has three points with one goal and one assist while Jack Dickson (Bournemouth, England), Kyle Brewster (New Hampton, N.H.) and Kristian Piippo (Honefoss, Norway) all have two points on a goal. Thomson, Riley Ellis (Goffstown, N.H.) and Jack Doherty (Meriden, N.H.) each have one assist.
Goalkeeper Andrew Pesci (Windham, N.H.) has started all five games the Wildcats have played and has a record of 4-1-0. He has a 1.40 goals against average and a .563 save percentage.
SCOUTING COLGATE: The Raiders (4-1-0) are coming off a 2-0 win at Siena College on Saturday, Sept. 10. After a scoreless first half, Abdel Sanogo gave Colgate a 1-0 lead in the 58th minute while Aram Ouligian sealed the deal with his first goal of the season in the 78th minute. Goalkeeper Ricky Brown did not face a shot on target in the game and improved his record to 4-1-0 with four shutouts.
Ethan Kutler has six points on three goals in four games played while Jared Stroud has one goal and two assists for four points. Ouligian has three points on a goal and an assist while Sanogo, Zach Tamen and Kentaro Morrison each have one goal apiece.
SCOUTING CORNELL: The Big Red (0-3-2) are in search of their first win of the season after coming off a 1-1 draw at Binghamton University on Wednesday, Sept. 14. After a scoreless first half, George Pedlow gave Cornell a 1-0 lead with a header goal in the 51st minute. Binghamton drew the game level at 1-1 in the 58th minute of play in what would ultimately be the final score.
Brady Dickens leads the squad in points as he has five on a pair of goals and an assist. Madison Heck has three points on a goal and an assist while Pedlow and Ryan Watters each have a pair of points on one goal. In net, time has been split between three different keepers. Mitchell Meyer has seen the most time as he comes in with a record of 0-3-0 with a goals against average of 2.79 and a save percentage of .500. Ryan Shellow has played 155:00 in net and has a record of 0-0-1 and has allowed two goals on seven shots. Mitchell Meyer made one start and has a 0-0-1 record and has allowed two goals on six shots faced.
