Purrier Moves On for Women's Track at NCAAs

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Sophomore Elinor Purrier (Montgomery, Vt.) qualified for the mile finals and junior Drew Piazza (Danvers, Mass.) just missed the cut after day one of the 2016 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships at the CrossPlex, Friday afternoon.
Purrier qualified for the finals, set for 5:10 Eastern Time tomorrow. ESPN3 will web-stream the meet live starting at 4:55 p.m. Eastern Time tomorrow afternoon.

Women's Mile
1. Elinor Purrier: 4:36.15 (1st in heat two)
Men's 800-meter
8. Drew Piazza: 1:47.97 (6th in heat one)
Purrier was seeded first for the preliminaries with a 4:29.71 time. Piazza held the 10th spot on a 1:47.28 mark.
Proven Purrier
After being seeded first overall, Purrier moves onto her first NCAA indoor finals in any event after just missing the mark her freshman season with a 15th place finish in the mile run. During the 2015 outdoor season, the sophomore competed at the NCAA Outdoor championships in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and finished seventh overall (9:53.69) for All-American status.
Piazza Pronto
In his first ever championship appearance, Piazza missed the cut by 0.06 seconds. The school record holder in the 800 has improved his 800-meter time by 0.32 seconds from last season for the top-10 seed going into the NCAAs.
