Fletcher Wins 400m at George Davis Invitational

LOWELL, Mass. and CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Senior Nathan Fletcher (Portsmouth, N.H.) of the University of New Hampshire men's track & field team won the 400m dash at the George Davis Invitational at UMass Lowell's Cushing Field Complex on Saturday. The Wildcats also had two runner-up finishes.

Fletcher won Heat 1 of the 400m with a time of 48.63 seconds and it proved to be the winning time among 19 competitors.
Senior Kyran Maher (Andover, Mass.) was runner-up in the pole vault at 4.60m. Maher cleared his first attempt of the meet at 4.45m and also went over the bar at 4.60m (15-1) on his first attempt before missing at 4.75m.
Sophomore Porter Hurteau (Milton, Vt.) placed second in the 1,500m by crossing the finish line at 3:57.99 in Heat 1. Eleven of the 44 competitors had a faster opening 300m split than Hurteau's 47.32 seconds. Through 1,100m, Hurteau was fifth in Heat 1, but he closed with a 1:00.80 split in the last 400m to climb into second place.
Freshman Rio Calle (Weare, N.H.) recorded a leap of 6.83m (22-5) to finish fourth in the long jump. Calle advanced to the finals in a tie for fifth place with a mark of 6.70m and recorded his top effort in the fifth round to climb into fourth place.
Sophomore Danny Anderson (Naugatuck, Conn.) finished fourth both in Heat 1 and overall in the 400m hurdles with a time of 56.62.
Calle and Anderson combined with sophomore James Gecek (High Bridge, N.J.) and freshman Evan Wong (Beverly, Mass.) to place fourth in the 4x100m relay by crossing the finish line in 42.87.
Freshmen Shawn Boudreau (Hudson, N.H.) and Tyson Patch (Walpole, N.H.) finished sixth and eighth, respectively, in the discus Invitational. Boudreau recorded his top throw of 44.91m (147-4) on his first attempt. Patch had his best effort of 42.87m (140-7) in the third round.
Sophomore Sam Grube (Dover, N.H.) and junior Gunnar Sokol (Berwick, Maine) tied for seventh in the high jump at a height of 1.85m (6-0.75). Both entered the competition by clearing 1.80m on the first attempt and then went over 1.85m on the second attempt before bowing out at 1.90m.
The UNH men's track & field team returns to action at the Wildcat Invitational on April 24-25, which is also Senior Day.
