McGovern Leads 1-2-3 Sweep of Hammer at UNH Wildcat Invite

DURHAM, N.H. – Seniors Liam McGovern (North Kingstown, R.I.), Caden Zalenski (Miford, N.H.) and Jack Washam (Nashua, N.H.) of the University of New Hampshire men's track & field team finished 1-2-3 in the hammer throw to lead the Wildcats to first place in Day 1 of the UNH Wildcat Invitational that was held Friday at Reggie F. Atkins Track & Field Facility.
Through two events, UNH leads with 24 points and is followed by Bryant University (18 points) and St. Anselm (14). CLICK HERE to view results.
McGovern led the field of 14 competitors from start to finish following a throw of 58.42m on his first attempt. He improved his mark in both the second and third rounds, then recorded his winning effort of 62.43 meters (204 feet-10 inches) on his last throw.
Zalenski entered the final round in third place but climbed to second with a mark of 58.71m (192-7). Washam recorded his third-place throw of 58.61m (192-3) on his third attempt to record a personal-best mark.
Jason Blaisdell (Barrington, N.H.) finished third in the javelin. He was in fourth place at the end of the first round and ascended to third with his best effort of 50.86m (166-10) on his second throw.
The UNH men's track & field team returns to action for Day 2 of the Wildcat Invitational on April 25. The Senior Day ceremony is at 10am, followed by field events at 11am and track events at 11:30am.
