What to Know...
- The 10th-seeded University of New Hampshire faces the seventh-seeded Merrimack College in a best-of-3 Hockey East opening round. Game one is set for Thursday, March 3 at 7 p.m. with game two happening on Friday, March 4 at 7 p.m. If necessary, game three will take place on Sunday, March 6 at 7 p.m. All three games will take place at Lawler Rink at Merrimack.
- The two teams met twice this season with the Wildcats holding a 1-0-1 advantage over the Warriors. UNH skated to a 4-2 win over Merrimack on Oct. 31 while the two teams played to a 3-3 tie on Nov. 14. The Warriors were ranked in the top-20 nationally at the time of both games.
- Through 100 games between the two schools, the Wildcats are 70-20-10 against the Warriors. At Lawler Rink, the 'Cats are 23-9-7.
- In the Hockey East Tournament, the Wildcats have an overall record of 50-39-2.
- The Wildcats are 2-0-0 in Hockey East Opening Round games with a two-game sweep over the University of Connecticut in 2014-15.
- New Hampshire emerged victorious over the Warriors in the regular season, taking a 1-0-1 record. The Wildcats command an 8-1 record all-time in the postseason against Merrimack. The last time the two teams met, it was on TD Garden ice in the 2011 Hockey East semifinals, where Merrimack advanced to the championship game for the first and only time in program history.
- Thursday's opening round game is the first game on a Thursday since December 6, 2012 when the Wildcats hosted Boston University.
- Sophomore forward Andrew Poturalski became the fourth Wildcat in 10 years to record 50 points in a season and the first since 2013-14 when Kevin Goumas had 52.
- Junior Tyler Kelleher leads active Wildcats with eight points against Merrimack from one goal and seven assists. Poturalski has six goals and one assist for seven points. Each of Poturalski's six goals have been assisted by Kelleher over the last two years.
- Former Wildcat Daniel Winnik was traded from the Toronto Maple Leafs to the Washington Capitals prior on Sunday, Feb. 28.
