Thomson, Wingate Score Goals to Knock Off Undefeated UMass Lowell, 2-1

DURHAM, N.H. – Goals by senior co-captains Duff Thomson (Greenfield, N.H.) and Chris Wingate (Hovik, Norway) helped propel the University of New Hampshire men's soccer team over No. 14 UMass Lowell, 2-1, Sunday evening at Bremner Field. It was the first loss of the season for the River Hawks.

-First Half-
Thomson scored his second career goal to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead over undefeated UMass Lowell in the 37th minute. The back ripped a shot from just inside the box that made its way past UMass Lowell keeper Austin Kroll and into the net.
-Second Half-
Wingate put New Hampshire up 2-0 in the 79th minute of play with his third goal of the season on a penalty kick. As he was charging into the UMass Lowell box, he was taken down on a foul by the River Hawks, awarding him the PK. He beat goalkeeper Zach Rowell, who came into the game for UML at the beginning of the second half, to the lower left corner of the net.
In the 88th minute, Jovanowski cut the deficit for UMass Lowell to one. While near the six-yard mark, he received a pass from Wuilito Fernandes and then fired a shot that trickled past Pesci into the goal.
