Men’s Soccer Battles Columbia on Saturday (7 p.m.)

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men's soccer team looks to remain undefeated as it travels to Columbia University for a night tilt on Saturday, Sept. 26 at Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
SCOUTING NEW HAMPSHIRE: The Wildcats have yet to lose a game through the first seven contests of the year. They come into the match with a mark of 6-0-1. In the last contest, the Wildcats defeated Northeastern University by a score of 1-0. Junior midfielder Riley Ellis (Goffstown, N.H.) scored his first career goal in the 48th minute of play. Senior goalkeeper Ryan Carpenter (Newmarket, N.H.) made a pair of saves in the match to earn his third shutout of the year as the team posted its fourth consecutive clean sheet.
Junior co-captain Chris Wingate (Hovik, Norway) and senior Ben Ramin (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) lead the Wildcats on offense with seven points from three goals and one assist. Senior A.J. Albers (Eagan, Minn.) has a pair of goals for four points while freshman Chris Arling (Windham, N.H.), seniors Fazal Nabi (Portland, Maine) and Connor Pauley (Londonderry, N.H.) all have four points on a goal and two assists. Junior Karl Frisk (Molndal, Sweden) splits his three points on a goal and an assist as Riley Ellis (Goffstown, N.H.) and Alex Valencia (Tracy, Calif.) have two points on a goal. Senior Lukas Goerigk (Berlin, Germany) has two points from two assists while Duff Thomson (Newton, N.H.) has one assist.
Carpenter has started each of the six games he has played and comes in with a record of 5-0-1 with three shutouts. He has a goals against average of 0.80 and a save percentage of .688. Sophomore Andrew Pesci (Windham, N.H.) has a record of 1-0-0 with a shutout.
SCOUTING COLUMBIA: The Lions are coming off a 1-0 loss to Fordham University on Wednesday, Sept. 25 on the road. The game was scoreless until the 74th minute of play when Fordham broke the tie on a deflection goal. Columbia goalkeeper Kyle Jackson made two saves on three shots faced.
Frederick Elliot and Rhys Williams lead the Lions with three points apiece, each from a goal and an assist. Owen Marshall, Amit Shumowitz, Andrew Tinari and Dylan Mott each have two points on a goal.
Jackson has played all five games for Columbia and has a record of 4-1-0 with three shutouts. He has a goals against average of 0.39 and a save percentage of .882.
CONNECT FOUR: The Wildcats are currently riding a four-game win streak, tying them for ninth in the nation for the longest active streak. Each of the last four wins have also been shutouts with the Wildcats outscoring opponents by a margin of 6-0. Their winning percentage of .929 has them tied for third in the nation.
VOTING TIME! New Hampshire were just shy of cracking the top-25 in the country in the most recent National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) national poll. UNH received 24 votes, the most of any team not in the top-25.
FIRE AWAY: The Wildcats have taken a total of 52 shots through the first seven games, an average of 7.43 shots per game. That ratio has them at 10th in the nation in the category.
WHERE TO NEXT? The Wildcats remain on the road as they start America East Conference action at the University of Massachusetts Lowell on Saturday, Oct. 3. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
