Women’s Cross Country Takes Gold at Wolfie Invitational

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Senior Laura Rose Donegan (Melbourne, Australia) finished first overall to propel the defending America East champion University of New Hampshire women's cross country team to a first place finish with 30 points at the Wolfie Invitational on the Stony Brook University campus, Saturday morning.
The University of Maryland, Baltimore County claimed second place with 47 points followed by Stony Brook who received 64 points. Lastly, Binghamton University finished fourth with 93 points.
Donegan secures her first gold medal of her cross country career in her season debut for 2015. She finished the 5K race in 18:57.29 for one point. The All-American placed sixth in the 2014 America East Championship and 31st at the NCAA Division I Northeast Region Cross Country Championships last season.
Freshman Shannon Murdock (Exeter, N.H.) was the second Wildcat to finish, as she broke the tape in 19:23.80 for fifth place.
Senior Brianna Boden (Keene, N.H.) and juniors Sarah Keiran (Rowley, Mass.) and Alex Giese (Franklin, Mass.) finished seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively. Boden broke the tape in 19:36.74 followed by Keiran (19:45.31) and Giese (19:54.28) which gave the 'Cats six of the top nine times on the morning.
Junior Hannah Kimball (Atkinson, N.H.) orchestrated a 13th place finish in 20:14.75 as sophomore Amanda Szymanski (Londonderry, N.H.) received the last UNH scoring spot, finishing 21st overall (20:31.78).
New Hampshire continues its season at the University of Maine on Friday, Sept. 18 (3 p.m.).
