Women’s Cross Country Squad Ready for Maine Dual Meet (Sept. 18; 3:30 p.m.)

DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire women's cross country team is geared up for its third meet of the season at the University of Maine dual meet on Friday, Sept. 18 (3:30 p.m.).
With mostly younger athletes competing, the UNH/Maine dual meet gives younger athletes a chance to get racing experience and develop their skills.
LAST TIME OUT
UNH looks to capture its second first place finish of the season after placing first at the Wolfie Invitational on Sept. 12 at Stony Brook University.
TOP-7 WILDCATS LAST TIME OUT
GIESE GOES THREE STRAIGHT
Senior Giese will compete in her third straight meet this season. She placed 14th overall at the season opener (Sept. 5) with a time of 19 minutes, 8.92 seconds. Most recently, the Massachusetts Native finished ninth (19:54.28) at the Wolfie Invitational (Sept. 12) to help bring the 'Cats to a first place finish.
KIMBALL GOES AGAIN
Junior Kimball will compete in her second straight race at the dual meet with Maine this weekend. After taking off the season opener, Kimball ran a 20:14.75, 5K race for 26th overall at the Wolfie Invitational. In last season's New England Cross Country Championship (Oct. 11), she finished first overall with a time of 18:22.6. She followed that up with a 15th place finish (18:23.3) at the 2014 America East Cross Country Championship (Nov. 1).
SOPHOMORES LACE UP
Shorter and Masters are both coming into their second meet of the season. Most recently, Shorter finished 25th overall at the Wolfie Invitational with a time of 20:42.80. Over the summer, Shorter placed ninth (11:24.80) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the USA Track & Field Junior Championships (June 29).
Masters took a week off following the season opener where she placed 26th overall (20:06.62). The Maine Native had a successful 2015 outdoor season, where she was a part of the second overall team in the 4x800 meter relay at the New England Track & Field Outdoor Championships (May 7-9).
SAME MEET NEW YEAR
The Wildcats travel to Maine for competition every year, and this year is no different. In last season's meet, New Hampshire pulled out a second place finish out of four America East member schools. Kieran and Giese led the charge with fourth (19:24.4) and fifth (19:28.0) place finishes, respectively.
NATIONAL RANKINGS
Earlier this week, New Hampshire ranked 31st in the National Coaches Poll. UNH also ranks fourth in the Northeast Regional Rankings, conducted by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
