Men’s Soccer Hits the Road for a Pair of Neutral Games (Fri., 1:30 p.m. | Sun., 11 a.m.)

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men's soccer team is set to compete in the Peter Baldwin Memorial Classic presented by Morgan Stanley and The Windjammer being held at the University of Vermont. The first game is set for Friday, Sept. 11 at 1:30 p.m. against Central Connecticut State University. Game two will take place Sunday, Sept. 13 at 11 a.m. against the University of North Carolina at Asheville.
SCOUTING UNH: The Wildcats are unbeaten through their first three games, compiling a record of 2-0-1. Most recently, New Hampshire battled to a 3-3 draw at Siena College. After being down 1-0, senior A.J. Albers (Eagan, Minn.) tied the game in the 58th minute while senior Fazal Nabi (Portland, Maine) gave the 'Cats a 2-1 advantage at 64:18. Siena scored the next two goals to take a 3-2 advantage, however junior co-captain Chris Wingate (Hovik, Norway) tied the game at 3-3 in the 78th minute on a penalty kick. The Saints held an 18-16 advantage in shots, but UNH placed eight on net in comparison to Siena's four.
Six Wildcats, seniors Ben Ramin (Baldwinsville, N.Y.), Connor Pauley (Londonderry, N.H.) and Nabi, juniors Karl Frisk (Molndal, Sweden) and Wingate, as well as rookie Chris Arling (Windham, N.H.), are tied for first in scoring with one goal and one assist for three points. Albers and freshman Alex Valencia (Tracy, Calif.) each have a pair of points with one goal while Duff Thomson (Newton, N.H.) and Lukas Goerigk (Berlin, Germany) each have one assist.
Senior goalkeeper Ryan Carpenter (Newmarket, N.H.) has started all three games and has played them in their entirety. He has a record of 2-0-1, a goals against average of 1.55 and a save percentage of .444.
SCOUTING CCSU: The Blue Devils come into the match with a 1-1-0 record after falling in the season opener at Stony Brook (Aug. 28), 1-0, and then bouncing back with a 5-1 win against UMass (Sept. 6) at home.
Ben Knight and Freddy Metellus each have four points on the year to lead the Blue Devils in scoring. Knight's total stems from a goal and two assists while Metellus has a pair of goals. Ryan Taylor has three points on a goal and an assist.
Senior keeper Josef Abele started the first game of the season and received a loss as he made three saves on four shots faced. Classmate Nick Velleca started the second game and earned the win as he play 80:10 on the field and made a pair of saves on three shots faced. Sophomore Carson D'Ambrosio played the remaining 9:50 in relief and did not see a shot.
SCOUTING ASHEVILLE: The Bulldogs come into the match with a 2-1-0 record. Most recently, the team fell to No. 16 Wake Forest by a score of 5-0. Zach Joens leads the team with four points on a pair of goals. Ben Chapel has a goal and an assist for three points while Andrew Lawrence has one goal for two points. Three Bulldogs have one point on an assist.
Keeper Zak Davis has started all three games and has a record of 2-1-0 with one shutout. He has a goals against average of 2.09 and a save percentage of .739. Tyler Moore has played 11:32 of relief and made a save on the only shot he faced.
STEPPING UP ON OFFENSE: The Wildcats have eight goals through the first three games of the 2015 season. Last year, they scored 11 in total.
LOGGING MINUTES: Six different Wildcats have played every minute of the first three games. Those who have are Andrew Chaput (Manchester, N.H.), Riley Ellis (Goffstown, N.H.), Jimmy Petruccelli (Newfields, N.H.), Carpenter, Goerigk and Thomson.
WHERE TO NEXT? UNH returns home on Saturday, Sept. 19 for just its second home game of the season. The Wildcats will play Massachusetts on Bremner Field at 7 p.m.
