McHoul Breaks Women's Lax Career Assist Record In 20-7 Loss To No. 4 BC

DURHAM, N.H. – Laura McHoul (Westwood, Mass.) broke the program career assist record with the 102nd of her career and third of the game, but the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team was defeated 20-7 by fourth-ranked Boston College at Cowell Stadium on Saturday afternoon's Senior Day.
UNH, which entered the game on a two-game win streak, is now 6-9 overall with three losses to nationally-ranked teams. BC, which recorded the edge in shots (34-20), draw controls (18-10) and ground balls (19-9), won its third consecutive game to improve to 14-2.
McHoul, who entered the game with 99 career assists, became the second Wildcat to reach the 100 milestone on her first of the game and tied Karen Geromini at 101 with 9:32 remaining in the second half. McHoul then became the record holder on UNH's next goal at 7:40 She now has 30 assists this season, which is tied for fifth with Katie Leland on the program's single-season assist list.
McHoul also scored a goal to finish with a team-high four points. Kayleigh Hinkle (Glenelg, Md.) extended her point streak to 15 games with two goals and an assist. Krissy Schafer (Longmeadow, Mass.) also recorded multiple points with two goals. Nicole Grote (Ellicott City, Md.) and Laura Puccia (Fairport, N.Y.) scored the other UNH tallies.
Hinkle was also credited with three draw controls and three ground balls, while Puccia finished with two draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
UNH starting goalkeeper Kate Clancy (Barrington, R.I.) exited the game with eight saves and the Wildcats trailing 19-6 at 9:32 of the second half. Sarah Lambert (Auburn, N.H.) stopped one of two shots on goal the rest of the way.
BC was led offensively by Covie Stanwick (six goals, two assists) and Kenzie Kent (five goals, one assist). Tess Chandler (2g, 1a) recorded three points, as did Sarah Mannelly (1g, 2a) and Emma Schurr (1g, 2a); Mannelly also had four draw controls and three ground balls. Laura Frankenfield and Kaileen Hart both scored twice. Kate Weeks netted the other Eagles' goal. Starting goalie Zoe Ochoa, who also exited the game at 9:32 of the second half, made eight saves. Lindsey Reder made two saves and allowed one goal in her relief stint.
UNH struck first just 55 seconds into the game when Nock's feed from the right wing found Puccia in the middle of the fan and she blasted a side-arm shot into the cage.
The Eagles scored goals 24 seconds apart on tallies by Kent at 26:16 and Chandler at 25:52 to take a 2-1 lead. Ochoa made one of her four first-half saves against Becca Graves (Rowley, Mass.) at 24:37 to keep the 'Cats at bay. BC advanced the ball to the attack zone and Stanwick scored on a crease roll around the left post to extend the advantage to 3-1 at 22:56.
Clancy denied Mary Kate O'Neill on a free position at 21:04, and Mannelly's free-position shot at 19:56 was also directed away by Clancy to keep UNH within two goals.
New Hampshire trimmed the deficit to 3-2 at 17:58. On the top-right side, Hinkle fed to Schafer cutting down the middle for the score. The teams exchanged multiple possessions before Hinkle scored into an open net on a free position from the top of the fan to tie the score, 3-3, at 10:27.
Puccia won the ensuing draw, but Hinkle's bid from six meters on the left side of the fan was snared by Ochoa.
BC then scored three goals in 58 seconds to quickly build a 6-3 lead they would not relinquish. Stanwick potted her second of the game on a drive from the top of the fan at 8:08 to ignite the run. UNH was whistled for a foul on the ensuing draw, and on the restart Kent found Stanwick alone in front of the cage and she beat Clancy for a 5-3 margin at 7:52. The Wildcats were issued a yellow card on the next draw and BC converted the player-up opportunity into a goal and 6-3 advantage on Kent's goal at 7:10.
Kent netted another player-up goal, this time on a free position, at 2:57 to give the visitors a four-goal lead.
Amy LeBel (Charlton, N.Y.) gained possession of a draw for the second time in the game, and that led to a free position for McHoul on the top-left side. McHoul dodged between a pair of defenders toward the top of the crease, where she shot back behind Ochoa into the cage to pull UNH within 7-4 at 2:05.
Clancy turned aside both Mannelly at 1:43 and Chandler with 50 seconds remaining in the first half, but Mannelly grabbed the ground ball off the second rebound and scored to reestablish a four-goal lead, 8-4, with 45 seconds on the clock.
Hinkle won the battle for the ensuing draw and scored when she turned and fired off of McHoul's centering pass from the left wing. That tally with 11 seconds to play brought the 'Cats within 8-5 and marked McHoul's 100th assist.
Boston College opened the second half with 11 consecutive goals to build a 19-5 lead at 11:25. In the opening minute, Stanwick and Frankenfield struck 29 seconds apart to push the margin to 10-5. Chandler and Stanwick then scored 53 seconds from one another – at 27:36 and 26:43 – to give BC a 12-5 lead and prompt UNH to call time out.
The Eagles potted three goals in 43 seconds to extend the advantage to double digits. Weeks started the spurt with a free-position goal at 24:09, followed by Schurr at 23:37 ad Frankenfield at 23:26.
Kent scored twice more at 19:00 and 17:38, then Stanwick netted her sixth of the game at 16:20 to push the lead to 18-5. Hart scored a free-position goal at 11:25 and BC called time out.
The Wildcats ended the visitor's run of goals at 9:32.From the top of the fan, McHoul found Hinkle cutting in from the right wing and she scored from the middle of the fan to make it 19-6 and give McHoul assist number 101.
Hinkle won the ensuing draw and McHoul set up the attack from outside the top of the fan. She fed a pass low to Schafer, who turned and ripped a shot into the cage at 7:40 to give McHoul the school career assist record of 102.
Hart's second goal of the game closed the scoring at 2:32.
At the conclusion of the game, UNH honored its six-member senior class of Graves, Hinkle, Emma Kriss (Rockville Centre, N.Y.), Brooke McGillis (Berwyn, Pa.), Nock and Puccia.
New Hampshire concludes the regular season April 25 (1 p.m.) at the University of Vermont. The winner of the game earns a berth in the America East Championship tournament.
