Donegan to Race at NCAA Women's Cross Country Championships (Nov. 21; Noon)

DURHAM, N.H. – Senior Laura Rose Donegan (Melbourne, Australia) of the University of New Hampshire women's cross country team is set to race in the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 21 (noon).
MEET DETAILS
The 6K race features 38 individuals and 31 teams from all across the country. This is the final cross country race of the season.
LAST TIME OUT FOR NEW HAMPSHIRE
New Hampshire finished 10th place with 308 points at the NCAA Division I Northeast Cross Country Regional Championships (Nov. 13) at Franklin Park in Boston. Senior Amber Short (Keene, N.H.) joined Donegan on the All-Region Team as top-25 finishers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Donegan placed sixth overall at the Northeast Regionals with a time of 20 minutes, 43.1 seconds. Her finish was one second shy of automatically qualifying for the NCAA Championships. On Saturday, Nov. 14 she was selected for an at-large bid to race in the championships, one of two from the region.
SEASON RECAP
In the 2015 cross country season, Donegan compiled four top-10 finishes and placed top-25 in all six races she has run. The co-captain began the season at the Stony Brook Invitational (Sept. 12), running a 5K time of 18:57.3 for first overall. At the Boston Coast-To-Coast meet she placed 17th, breaking the tape in 17:27.0. Just before championship time, Donegan placed 23rd overall at Division I Pre Nationals with a 6K time of 20:29.5. Championship season kicked off with Donegan securing second overall at the America East Championship, finishing the race in 18:09.7. She also secured the Elite 18 award for the best grade point average of the top runners.
OUTDOOR TRIUMPHS
During the 2015 outdoor season, Donegan finished second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the America East Championships (May 2-3). Her season continued as she qualified for the NCAA Championship (June 10-13) and finished 10th in the 3K steeplechase for All-American Second Team honors.
ONE FOR THE HISTORY BOOKS
The Australia native is the first Wildcat runner to compete at the NCAA Cross Country Championships since Keely Maguire qualified in 2012. Additionally, Donegan is the first student-athlete since Cathy Parker in 2007-08 to compete in both the outdoor track & field and Cross Country NCAA Championships.
