LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Senior Laura Rose Donegan (Melbourne, Australia) earned All-American status with a 30th place finish at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships, Saturday afternoon at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park.
Donegan secured her second All-American honor, after placing 10th in the steeplechase during the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in 2015, with a 20 minute, 20.9 second time in the 6K race. UNH continues to send high caliber student-athletes to national tournaments.
Donegan also was named the Elite 90 award winner for the highest grade point average of any student-athlete running at the championships, with a 4.0 GPA in political science. Each of the 90 sponsored sports by the NCAA has one Elite 90 recipient with the highest GPA at the NCAA Championship of that particular sport.
The NCAA sponsors 340 cross country programs and individually, Donegan placed 30th out of 254 of the top runners in the nation. At the 2,000-meter mark, she was 79th overall with a time of 6:45.4 and ran a strong final 4,000-meters for the top-time.
The Australia native is the first Wildcat runner to compete at the NCAA Cross Country Championships since Keely Maguire qualified in 2012. Additionally, Donegan is the first student-athlete since Cathy Parker in 2007-08 to compete in both the outdoor track & field and Cross Country NCAA Championships. Donegan is only the second UNH athlete to secure the honor.
