Volleyball Welcomes UMass Lowell for Sunday Matinee (Oct. 11; 1 p.m.)

DURHAM, N.H. -- The University of New Hampshire volleyball team looks to remain unbeaten in America East play, welcoming the University of Massachusetts Lowell to Lundholm Gymnasium for 'Sunday Blues' on Oct. 11 (1 p.m.). The 'Cats are encouraging all fans to wear blue.
THE STATE OF NEW HAMPSHIRE: New Hampshire comes into this matchup with a record of 11-7, and 3-0 in America East play. The Wildcats downed both the University at Albany (Oct. 2; 25-22, 25-20, 25-21) and Binghamton University (Oct. 4; 25-18, 25-23, 25-22) in straight sets.
Junior middle blocker Demi Muses (Orangevale, Calif.), the reigning America East Player of the Week, registered a pair of double-double performances in the two wins. Against the Great Danes, Muses registered a career-high .625 hitting percentage, powered by 12 kills on 16 swings and two errors. She chipped in 13 digs. In the triumph against the Bearcats, she registered 12 kills and 10 digs to post her sixth double-double of the season.
Muses paces the UNH offense this season, landing 2.98 kills per set. Orchestrating the offense is Keelin Severtson (Delray Beach, Fla.). The junior setter has dished out 8.64 assists per set this and is the conference's second-leading player in service aces (33), good for eighth in the nation. Senior Madison Lightfoot (Clarkston, Mich.), the conference's Defensive Specialist of the Week for Oct. 5, is the team's leader in digs per set (4.20). Senior outside hitter Tori Forrest (Powder Springs, Ga.) paces the 'Cats in double-doubles (seven), averaging 2.92 kills and 2.83 digs per set.
UNH records 11.3 kills per set and are holding its opponents to a league-best .184 attack percentage.
SCOUTING UMASS LOWELL: The River Hawks enter Sunday's tilt with a 4-15 overall record and 1-2 in league frays. UMass Lowell rallied from a 2-0 deficit to down the University of Hartford in a five-set thriller on the road Friday. Freshman outside hitter Haley Shimon recorded a career-high 18 kills and a .333 hitting percentage in the victory.
The River Hawks are hitting just .119 on the season, while allowing opponents to hit .220. Shimon leads the River Hawks offensively, landing 2.30 kills per set. Alexa Toth and Delaney Mendez share the setting duties, chalking up assist per set averages of 4.80 and 4.20, respectively. Freshman libero Lindsey Visvardis patrols the backcourt, scooping up 3.80 digs per set. Redshirt senior middle blocker Haley Clarke adds 1.40 kills and a team-best 1.08 blocks per set.
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. UMASS LOWELL: UNH looks to stay undefeated versus UMass Lowell, boasting a 5-0 record. The 'Cats swept the River Hawks in their last meeting in Lowell on Nov. 7, 2014 (25-9, 25-16, 25-19).
STREAKS: New Hampshire has won 14 straight matches over America East opponents, dating back to Oct. 12, 2014 as UNH swept the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (25-19, 25-8, 25-20). In that span, New Hampshire has only dropped six sets against conference members. In league play this season, the Wildcats have yet to concede a set. UNH currently is unbeaten in its last five contests.
DEFEND DURHAM: New Hampshire boasts a 24-8 record in the confines of Lundholm Gymnasium, dating back to the start of the 2013 season. Additionally, the Wildcats are 28-8 when hosting America East teams since 2011.
ROLLING DOUBLES: Forrest racked up 10 double-doubles to lead the team in 2014. She looks to eclipse that figure as the co-captain has a team-high seven double-doubles through 15 matches. Muses (six) and Severtson (three) have also achieved double-double performances this season.
CHART TOPPERS: UNH is among the upper echelon of America East in several statistical categories this season. The Wildcats lead the league in opponent hitting percentage (.184) while ranking second in digs per set (15.58) and service aces (111). Individually, Muses ranks fifth in kills per set with 2.98. Severtson ranks third in the conference in assists per set (8.64) and second in service aces (33). Lightfoot's 4.20 digs per set is good for third in America East.
HONORS AND AWARDS:
LIGHTFOOT BECOMES ALL-TIME DIGS LEADER:With the Wildcats' victory over Buffalo on Sept. 20, Lightfoot became the program's all-time digs leader. The senior co-captain surpassed Jen Williams '05 on the career leaderboard, who recorded 1,398 digs in her career. Lightfoot now boasts 1,478 digs and counting in her illustrious career.Lightfoot owns two of the top 10 single-season school records for digs, which includes tying the single-season digs mark of 560 just a year ago.
LEADERBOARD WATCH: Forrest continues to ascend the UNH all-time kills chart, ranking sixth with 1,135. The two-time co-captain became the eighth Wildcat to reach 1,000 kills to reach the milestone in a four-set win (25-12, 25-18, 13-25, 25-16) against Marshall University on Sept. 4. The senior outside hitter is also closing in on the 1,000-dig plateau. Forrest currently has tallied 941 digs in her prolific career as a Wildcat.
FIVE-TIME CHAMPS: The Wildcats secured the America East title on their home court for the second straight year after defeating the University at Albany in four sets on Nov. 22, 2014 (25-22, 19-25, 27-25, 25-13). UNH has won the conference crown five times; all under the tutelage of head coach Jill Hirschinger. Additionally, all five titles of the program's titles have been won at Lundholm Gymnasium.
HIRSCHINGER BY THE NUMBERS:In 36 years as a head coach, Hirschinger is one of just 12 active coaches that have recorded 700 wins or more. She recorded win No. 700 on Sept. 20, 2014 against the University of Rhode Island in a five-set battle. Already the program's winningest coach, Hirschinger earned her 300th career victory at UNH when the team captured afour-set triumphover Binghamton University on Nov. 2, 2014.
