Women's Soccer and UMBC End Match in Double OT, 0-0

DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire women's soccer team and University of Maryland Baltimore County ended conference action in a draw, 0-0, in double overtime for Think Pink Thursday evening from Cowell Stadium.
The Wildcats move to 4-7-2 overall and 1-1-2 in league action. All of New Hampshire's overtime ties have occurred during conference play. The Retrievers progress to 8-3-2 on the season and 0-1-2 in America East play.
Sophomore netminder Mimi Borkan (Medfield, Mass.) made two saves in 110 minutes between the pipes. The Retrievers goalkeeper Jen Nance made 11 saves in the game.
The 'Cats out shot UMBC for the match (19-10). UNH garnered five corner kicks while their opponent earned two.
Freshman Brooke Murphy (Monson, Mass.) paced the Wildcats with five shots while junior Kirsten O'Neil (Hampton, N.H.) tallied four. Senior Caroline Murray (New Canaan, Conn.) and junior Gabrielle Sloan (Stow, Mass.). Murphy currently leads the team with 41 shots on the season.
UNH opened the game with three straight shots against the Retrievers as Murphy mustered two of those shots while Murray posted the first shot of the game less than eight minutes into the match.
New Hampshire had several opportunities in the first half to take the lead but were unable to get a shot past Nance who made four saves. At the half, it was a tight game as the Wildcats claimed a 9-2 shot advantage.
The 'Cats offense added five shots in the second half. In the 45th minute sophomore Morgan Smith (Canton, Conn.) took the first shot of in the second stanza (posting two in the game) as Nance came up with one of her 11 saves. Borkan made her first save of the evening at the 57th minute.
The Retrievers picked up the pace throughout the second half, generating seven shots in the period, but were only able to place a pair of shots on net.
With the first overtime coming near New Hampshire kicked their offense into high gear. Sloan had a chance to put UNH on top at the 85th minute as her header was on target and Nance made the save.
After each team tallied a shot in the first overtime, O'Neill posed a great opportunity for the Wildcats in the second overtime, but Nance was once again there, cutting off the corner and making the stop, to solidify the draw.
The Wildcats have a quick turnaround hosting University of Hartford for a conference game on Sunday, Oct. 19 (2 p.m.).
