Women's Soccer Downed at UMBC, 2-1

BALTIMORE, Md. – The University of New Hampshire women's soccer squad fell by a score of 2-1 at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in the regular season finale. UMBC recorded a pair of late goals to overcome a 1-0 deficit.
The loss drops the Wildcats to 4-7-6 on the year and to 2-3-3 in conference play while UMBC improved to 10-5-2 overall and to 5-2-0 in America East action.
New Hampshire's Colleen Murray (Bedford, N.H.) had an early bid for the Wildcats in the eighth minute of play as she blasted a shot that was saved by Retriever goalkeeper Lauren Kadet. Meghan Ledwith (Yardley, Pa.) notched a blast from the top of the box in the 14th minute of play, but Kadet denied the shot.
In the 49th minute of play, Wildcat Kirsten O'Neil (Hampton, N.H.) notched her fifth goal of the season to give UNH a 1-0 lead. The goal came from a ball that was lofted into the box that O'Neil gathered and blasted a shot below Kadet.
Borkan kept the Wildcats in the lead as she made a save on a shot by Amira Walcot in the 50th minute. O'Neil made another bid for a second goal in the 64th minute on a header attempt, but the shot was turned away by Kadet. An offensive battle ensued as each team tried to find the back of the net when UMBC was able to tie the game a 1-1 in the 83rd minute of play by Nikki Boretti. Melissa Hummel served a corner kick into the box where she found Boretti near the goal. Boretti put the attempt away with a header to level the score.
In the 84th minute, the Retrievers took a 2-1 lead with a goal by Lilly Rydon. Brown sent a shot at the net that was saved by Borkan, but Rydon found the rebound with her head and scored the eventual game winner. At the end of 90 minutes of play, the Retrievers held on for a 2-1 win.
Borkan made four saves on the six shots faced in net for the Wildcats as her record stands at 3-5-5. Kadet made a total of six saves in the game as she earned the win for UMBC. Her record now stands at 10-5-2.
