Brooke, a senior from Monson, Mass., scored two goals against Colgate University to lead the UNH women’s soccer team to a 2-1 victory at Wildcat Stadium on Aug. 25. In addition to scoring both New Hampshire goals, Brooke denied Colgate’s game-tying bid in the final minute when she cleared away a shot from the goalmouth.
The senior captain broke the scoreless tie in the 41st minute when she corralled a centering pass in the middle of the penalty area and fired a shot into the net. After the Raiders tied the score in the 70th minute, Brooke put UNH back on top when she gained possession 35 yards out, dribbled past a defender and blasted a shot from 18 yards inside the right post.
Brooke helped preserve that one-goal lead for the 2-1 victory. With 39 seconds left in regulation, Colgate’s shot eluded the UNH goalkeeper, but Brooke raced back to the goal line and booted the ball away to deny the would-be game-tying goal.
The two goals and four points are season highs for the two-time America East Striker of the Year, who has scored 11 goals each of her first three years as a Wildcat.
Brooke opened the 2017 season with a point in three consecutive matches. She leads the team in goals (three), points (seven) and shots (20).
