Bio
Before UNH: Andrew was born a happy, healthy baby but at age 5 that all changed when he received the news that he had a brain tumor. He had brain surgery two days following the diagnosis and has fought a long, hard journey to recovery. Andrew had to relearn to do just about everything. He spent many years in physical and occupational therapy. He has some learning and physical disabilities, but he does not let them stop him. He began giving back almost right away by organizing a toy drive for the hospital where he was treated. He is a very caring and sensitive boy who is always looking for an opportunity to help others.
In 2012, Friends of Jaclyn, an organization dedicated to helping improve the quality of life for kids with pediatric brain tumors, matched Andrew up with the UNH men's hockey team. It has been an amazing experience and the coaches and players treat him like he is an important member of the team. This opportunity has helped with his self esteem and builds a sense of belonging.
The journey is not over, and we take each day as a gift. Andrew is receiving his 10th MRI in February 2016 and is celebrating his 10th year of good health.
From 2009-11, Andrew won a national contest that designated him as the Kid Captain of Red Sox Nation. He has a certificate of leadership from the Travis Manion Foundation in 2013. He is currently an honor roll student and has organized several successful fundraising events. In 2011 and 2012, he won the SPCA summer camp t-shirt design contest.
