Wildcats Sit in Fourth After First Day in St. Lawrence Carnival

The women’s team sits in third while the men closed the first day in fifth
LAKE PLACID, N.Y. — Sophomores Ben Oldham (Carbondale, Colo.) and Natalie Nicholas (Bozeman, Mont.) each finished sixth overall in their respective individual classic races, headlining the University of New Hampshire's Nordic ski team's first day at the St. Lawrence Carnival. Oldham finished with a 27:44.6 time while Nicholas closed out with a 31:16.8 time, each earning 37 EISA points and 40 NCAA points.
In addition to Nicholas' sixth place finish, Clara Hegan (Ottawa, Ontario) finished in seventh place (31:29.8), Hattie Barker (Underhill, Vt.) finished in 10th (31:47.6), Aurora Stiles (Jackson Hole, Wyo.) finished in 13th (32:31.4), and Emma Charles (Farmington, Maine) finished in 17th to round out the top five.
Sophomore Sawyer Ezzell (Crested Butte, Colo.) skied a 34:02.7 time, finishing 30th, while Emma Barsness (Vail, Colo.) finished in 52nd with a 35:08.5 time and Sophia Kelting (Saranac Lake, N.Y.) closed out in 55th with a 35:20.03 time.
Through the first day, the women's team closed out in the third place, finishing with 102 points, trailing Dartmouth College (first, 112 points) and Middlebury College (second, 109 points).
Following Oldham's sixth place entry, Galen Grohusky (Hailey, Idaho) finished in 13th place (27:55.6), Nate Streubel finished in 40th place (29:24.5), Silas D'Atre finished in 45th place (29:43.3), and David Shycon (Northampton, Mass.) finished in 62nd place (30:13.9) to close out the top five. Miguel Fresco-Hanlon (Minneapolis, Minn.) finished in 68th place, skiing a 30:34.4 time.
After the first day, the men's team finished in fifth place with 79.5 points, trailing the University of Vermont (first, 118 points), Dartmouth (second, 112 points), Colby College (third, 98 points), and Middlebury (fourth, 94 points).
