Ski Closes Opening Day at Vermont Carnival in Third Place

The women's alpine team paced the day with a first-place finish.
STOWE, Vt. — Graduate student Benedetta Caloro (Rome, Italy) (1:05.72, 1:03.84; 2:09.56), and seniors Tilde Kandell (Leksand, Sweden) (1:06.47, 1:03.10; 2:09.57) and Hedda Martelleur (Uppsala, Sweden) (1:06.66, 1:03.09; 2:09.75) finished fourth, fifth, and sixth overall, respectively, in the women's giant slalom, while Roman Elvidge (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) finished eighth in the men's giant slalom (1:03.34, 1:01.27; 2:04.61), headlining the University of New Hampshire's ski team's opening day at the Vermont Carnival.
Following the opening day of alpine competition, the women's team won the day, pacing competition with 117 points, while the men's team finished in fifth place with 74 points, trailing behind Middlebury (129 points), Dartmouth (95 points), Vermont (82 points), and Plymouth State (76 points). Overall, the Wildcats closed out the opening day of the Vermont Carnival in third place with 191 points, behind Middlebury (222 points) and Dartmouth (196).
