Buckrell's First Place Finish Headlines Opening Day at Colby Carnival

Buckrell skied a Carnival-best 1:27.11 while Celine Sommerová’s second run topped the women’s competition.

KINGFIELD, MAINE — Sophomore Jayden Buckrell (Collingwood, Ontario) finished first overall in the men's slalom event, skiing in 40.42 and 46.69 second runs for a 1:27.11 finish, while Celine Sommerová (Milton, N.H.) finished fourth overall in the women's slalom (46.80, 45.55, 1:32.55) headlining the University of New Hampshire's Alpine ski team's opening day at the Colby Carnival.

Following the first day of Alpine action in Kingfield, the men's team finished in fourth place with 100 points, trailing Dartmouth (115 points), the University of Vermont (104 points), and Boston College (102 points), while the women's team finished in first with 95 points, leaving the Wildcats in second place overall ahead of the giant slalom on Saturday.
