Women's Hockey Team Awards Announced at Annual Banquet

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire women's hockey program held its annual team banquet this past Saturday (April 26) at Three Chimneys Inn to recognize the accomplishments of the team and student-athletes in the 2024-25 season.
Senior assistant captain Shea Verrier (Reading, Mass.) was named recipient of the Karyn L. Bye MVP Award and shared the Dr. Allison Edgar Academic Award with senior captain Kira Juodikis (Windsor, Ontario) and sophomore Noemi Martinez (Glen Ridge, N.J.). Juodikis also received the Blue Line Club Award while this marked the second consecutive year Martinez earned the Academic Award.

Verrier recorded six goals and 12 assists for a total of 18 points as she ranked second on the team in assists, tied for second in points and tied for first in game-winning goals with three. She was also atop the team leaderboard in faceoff wins (284) and faceoffs (621); she ranked 10th in Hockey East in faceoff wins. Her 35 blocks tied for third on the team and was tops among forwards.
Verrier recorded 10+ faceoff wins in a game 12 times with a high of 15 against Providence College on Nov. 8, 2024, and she had a season-high .682 faceoff win percentage that game.
In addition to excellence in the faceoff circle that game against PC, Verrier matched her career high of two assists and also scored a goal to record a season high of three points. She tallied two assists in two other games: Jan. 25 at Maine and Oct. 4 vs. Assumption College.
Verrier's other highlights included scoring the game-winning goal against 14th-ranked Boston University on Jan. 18, which was a 2-0 Wildcats' victory. She also scored a goal in four consecutive games spanning Nov. 2-15 with four goals and a pair of assists for a total of six points in that streak.
Calderone (Kirkland, Quebec) led all UNH skaters with 51 blocks and she ranked sixth in Hockey East in blocks per game (1.65). The grad student and first year Wildcat recorded multiple blocked shots in 17 of 32 games, including a stretch of 11 consecutive games spanning Oct. 18-Nov. 26. Calderone was credited with a season-high five blocks Dec. 30 against Dartmouth College and she finished with three blocks in five games.
At the other end of the ice, Calderone recorded four goals and five assists for a total of nine points. She scored a goal in her first two games as a Wildcat (Oct. 4 & 5 against Assumption) and went on to record a four-game point streak from Nov. 2-15.
Truter (Uxbridge, Ontario) received the Sue Merz 7th Player Award, which recognizes a player who performs above and beyond expectations. The grad student and fifth-year Wildcat recorded four goals and 13 assists for a total of 17 points to lead the team in assists and rank fourth in points.
Truter led the Wildcats with a .524 faceoff win percentage and she ranked second in faceoff wins (244); those numbers ranked 12th in Hockey East in wins and 10th in win percentage among 23 league skaters with 150+ faceoff wins.
She recorded single-season highs in assists, points, faceoff wins and faceoff win percentage.
Truter won 10+ faceoffs in a game nine times with a high of 16 at the University of Vermont on Oct. 25 with a season-high .842 win percentage (16 of 19 faceoffs). Her other highlights included a season high of two points against both Assumption (Oct. 4) and Vermont (Oct. 26).
Cabral (Lee, N.H.) skated in all 35 games with totals of two goals, six assists and eight points to mark an improvement from her freshman season in 2023-24, when she tallied one point on an assist in 27 games.
The sophomore forward recorded her first career multiple-point game with a personal-best two assists against Merrimack College (Feb. 6). Cabral also recorded an assist in back-to-back games against both Merrimack (Jan. 10) and nationally-ranked Boston U. (Jan. 18).
Hush (Scarborough, Ontario) had a breakout season with 11 goals and three assists for a total of 14 points. The junior had compiled a total of two points (one goal, one assist) in 32 games spanning her first two seasons as a Wildcat.
Hush ranked second on the team with those 11 goals, which included a team-leading six power-play goals, and she tied for sixth in points. The six power-play goals also tied for best in Hockey East and 13th in Division I.
Her season highlights included career highs of two points and two goals against both Assumption (Oct. 4) and Boston U. (Feb. 15).
Juodikis received the Blue Line Club Award, which is given to a player who embodies what it means to be a Wildcat by exhibiting a positive culture in the locker room, on the ice, in youth clinics and in the community.
As a captain, she not only led her team in the rink, she served on the Captain's Counsel that meets with the administration regularly to advocate for all student-athletes at UNH.
Juodikis also spent much of her time in the community. She is a member of SAAC and has participated in many community service activities such as Skate with the 'Cats, Connor's Climb 5k for Mental Health Awareness, the Portsmouth Breast Cancer 5k and Read Across America.
Juodikis was named a Hockey East Third Team All-Star for the third consecutive year in 2024-25. She recorded 12 goals and eight assists for a total of 20 points to lead the 'Cats in both goals and points. She also tied for third in game-winning goals (three) and ranked fifth in assists.
Her season highlights included scoring her 50th career goal, recording her second career hat trick with three goals at Merrimack (Jan. 10), and matching her career high of two assists in a game (Nov. 8 vs. Providence).
Martinez, a sophomore goaltender, compiled a 2-1-2 record, 1.50 GAA, .952 save percentage and one shutout in seven games (five starts). She matched the school record of 52 saves in the 1-1 tie against nationally-ranked Boston College in the Feb. 22 regular-season finale. Martinez's other highlights included a 30-save shutout win at Northeastern (Nov. 2).
In addition to Verrier, Calderone, Truter and Juodikis, Marina Alvarez (Center Moriches, N.Y.), Brooke Hammer (Commerce Township, Mich.), Sara Boucher (Burlington, Ontario) and Maddie Crowley-Cahill (Haverhill, Mass.) were honored as the Class of 2025

New Hampshire finished the 2024-25 season with 15 wins and three ties. One of the wins and ties was against nationally-ranked BU, and one of the other ties came against nationally-ranked BC.
