BOSTON – Freshman goalkeeper Ellie Thomas (Needham, Mass.) of the University of New Hampshire women's lacrosse team was named the America East Rookie of the Week on Monday.
It is the second consecutive week and third time overall this season Thomas has received a conference weekly award. She was previously honored as Goalkeeper of the Week on Feb. 10 and March 3.
Thomas recorded a 7.00 GAA and .588 save percentage last week as she made 10 saves in UNH's only game of the week, a 7-5 loss at Sacred Heart University (March 5). Thomas was also credited with a game-high three ground balls and a caused turnover.
The UNH rookie goalie held Sacred Heart without a goal for nearly 19 minutes overlapping the first and second quarters, which allowed UNH pull even at 2-2 after allowing the first two goals of the game. Thomas also held the Pioneers scoreless the final 8:41 of the game.
Thomas ranks No. 9 in the nation and leads America East in saves per game (11.17) as she has recorded 10+ saves in 5 of 6 games. She also ranks second in the conference in save percentage (.450).
New Hampshire returns to action March 12 (4 p.m.) against Boston University at Wildcat Stadium. UNH opens conference play March 16 (12 p.m.) at UMass Lowell.
