AMESBURY, Mass. – Sophomore Sedona Blair (Eden Prairie, Minn.) of the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team was named the Stop it Goaltending Goaltender of the Week by Hockey East on Monday. It is the fifth time this season Blair has received this award.
Blair stopped 85 of 89 shots for a .955 save percentage in two games last weekend. She recorded a career-high 43 saves to backstop UNH to a 1-0 victory at Holy Cross on Jan. 31; she stopped 19 shots in the third period and that included five saves in the final 33 seconds with the Crusaders skating 6-on-4.
Blair kept Holy Cross scoreless on five power plays by stopping all 12 shots faced while the Wildcats were shorthanded.
Blair followed that with 42 saves in the 4-3 overtime loss at Providence College on Feb. 1. She stopped four shots in OT before surrendering the game-ending goal. Blair once again backstopped a perfect UNH penalty kill with six saves on three Friars' power plays.
Spanning the two games, Blair recorded 10+ saves in four consecutive periods with 16 in the second period at HC and 19 in the third period followed by 16 in the first period at PC and 14 more in the second.
Dating back to the 2009-10 season, no other UNH goalie has recorded 40+ saves in back-to-back games.
Blair has six shutouts this season – matching the most by a UNH goalie since the 2019-20 season – and 11 career.
She leads all league goalies with five Stop it Goaltending Goaltender of the Week awards, and UNH has received six of the 15 weekly goalie awards this season. Blair was previously honored Oct. 7 & 21, Nov. 25 and Jan. 20. Noemi Martinez received the accolade Nov. 4.
UNH returns to action Feb. 6 (6 p.m.) against Merrimack College at the Whittemore Center at Key Auto Group Complex. There will be a Pre-game National Girls and Women in Sports Day Panel (5:10-5:30 p.m.), trading cards giveaway and postgame autographs.
