Ski Places Third at Bates Carnival in 2025 Season Opener

RUMFORD, Maine – Junior Hedda Martelleur (Uppsala, Sweden) earned podium finishes in both the slalom (second) and giant slalom (third) to lead the University of New Hampshire ski team to a third-place finish at the Bates Carnival.
UNH tallied 759.5 points in the two-day competition, finishing behind Dartmouth (956.5) and Vermont (781.5).
In Alpine action, Martelleur led the women's team with a second-place finish in the slalom (1:45.37, 47 points) and a third-place result in the giant slalom (2:35.27, 42.5 points).
Graduate student Bella Amico (Bronxville, N.Y.) and senior Zoe Michael (Sydney, Australia) combined for 43 points in the GS, finishing 22nd (2:38.87) and 23rd (2:39.01), respectively.
In the Slalom, junior Tilde Kandell (Leksand, Sweden) earned 29 points with an 11th-place finish (1:47.74).
On the men's side, junior Isac Hedstrom (Are, Sweden) secured second place in the Giant Slalom (2:28.83, 40 points).
Graduate student Hayden Dahl (Plymouth, N.H.) placed eighth (2:30.03), while freshman Jayden Buckrell (Collingwood, Ontario, Canada) and graduate student Robert Underhill (Newbury, N.H.) finished 12th (2:30.72) and 15th (2:31.20), respectively, giving the Wildcats four top-15 finishers.
In the Slalom, Buckrell (7th, 1:44.17), Hedstrom (8th, 1:44.27), and Underhill (10th, 1:44.35) earned a combined 97 points, helping the men's team place second in the event.
In Nordic competition, freshman Clara Hegan (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) led the women with a second-place finish in Saturday's individual skate (25:51.2, 47 points).
Freshman Hattie Barker (Underhill, Vt.) placed fifth (25:54.4, 39 points), and graduate student Jasmine Lyons (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) finished ninth (26:27.1, 31 points) to give UNH three top-10 performers in the event.
In Friday's sprint, junior Alexandra Luxmoore (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) secured 35 points with a seventh-place finish. Hegan followed in eighth (33 points), while Lyons placed 11th (29 points).
For the men, graduate student Charles Martell (Exeter, N.H.) earned 31 points with an 11th-place result in the sprint. Senior Roger Anderson (Golden Valley, Minn.) finished 15th (28 points), and freshman Galen Grohusky (Hailey, Idaho) added 19 points with a 28th-place finish.
Anderson led the men in Saturday's individual skate with a fifth-place finish (22:43.6, 39 points). Martell and Grohusky followed in 15th and 16th, contributing a combined 51 points to the Wildcats' total.
