Aaron Williams Fernandez, Adi Hicks and Ibrahim Conde to lead the Wildcats
DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men's soccer program has named senior back Aaron Williams Fernandez (London, England), graduate student midfielder Adi Hicks (Derry, N.H.) and senior forward Ibrahim Conde (Montreal, Quebec) the team captains for the 2024 season.
"These three young men give us balance within our leadership and will further enhance our team first culture," said head coach Rich Weinrebe. "Throughout the spring period they embodied all the different aspects of what our program has been built on. I am proud to have these three representing the program as captains this fall and look forward to them leading UNH Men's Soccer to new heights."
Williams Fernandez appeared in his first season as a Wildcat in 2023 after three years at Columbia College where he was also a captain.
Weinrebe on Williams Fernandez:
"Aaron showed throughout this spring to be a catalyst for our group through his vocal leadership and character. He is a connector of people within the locker room and sets the standard of what type of person we want here at UNH."
This will be Hicks' fifth season at UNH where he has played in 31 games and was an America East Presidential Scholar-Athlete and is a member of the National College Athlete Honor Society.
Weinrebe on Hicks:
"Adi is a veteran of the program and knows what being a UNH Men's Soccer player is at its core. He has grown as the program has continued to grow, and we feel as though he will be a great mentor and example for the next generation of UNH Men's soccer players."
Conde, who played three years at Western Community College, appeared in 11 games during his first season at UNH in 2023 as he posted one goal and one assist for three points.
Weinrebe on Conde:
"Ibra has an approach on and off the field that sets a standard of excellence for the group. There is no task too small for him to help with, he puts the team first, has great daily habits and has a drive that is a great example for our group of players."
The Wildcats concluded the 2023 season with a 13-3-4 record and advanced to the Round of 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the third time in program history. UNH was the No. 8 seed in the NCAA Tournament which was the highest seed in program history. The Wildcats defeated defending national champions Syracuse, 3-0, in the second round and then fell to No. 9 seed and eventual national champions Clemson, 1-0, in the first-ever Round of 16 game played at Wildcat Stadium.
