Team Awards Announced at Annual Women's Hockey Banquet

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire women's hockey program held its annual team banquet this past Saturday (April 27) at Three Chimneys Inn to recognize the accomplishments of the team and student-athletes in the 2023-24 season.
Grad student forward and captain Annie Berry (Milton, Mass.) was named the recipient of the Blue Line Club Award for the third consecutive year. This accolade recognizes the player who best embodies what it means to be a Wildcat by exhibiting a positive culture in the locker room, on the ice, in youth clinics and in the community.
Also of note, freshman goaltender Sedona Blair (Eden Prairie, Minn.) received both the Karyn L. Bye Most Valuable Player Award and Sue Merz 7th Player Award, which recognizes a player who performs above and beyond expectations.

Blair broke UNH's single-season saves record with 917 in her rookie season with the Wildcats. Those 917 saves ranked 10th in the nation, and her other national rankings included fourth in minutes (2131:18), 11th in wins (18) and tied for 15th in shutouts (five).
On the Hockey East leaderboard, Blair was second in both wins and minutes, third in shutouts and fourth in saves. In league-only games, she tied for first in wins (14), ranked third in minutes (1594:28), and tied for third in shutouts (three).
Blair made 30+ saves in a game 11 times and that included a high of 40 in a 3-1 win at Providence College on Nov. 3. She recorded three consecutive shutouts against Harvard University, Holy Cross and Vermont as part of a total shutout streak of 193 minutes, 1 second that spanned Nov. 11 to Dec. 8.
Blair's 2023-24 accolades included New England All-Star, Hockey East Third Team All-Star and Hockey East All-Rookie Team; she was the runner up for the league's Rookie of the Year award. Blair became the first Wildcat freshman named a Hockey East All-Star since 2013.
Her other accolades included four-time Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week honoree, received a Player of the Week award and was named the Stop It Goaltending Goaltender of the Week once – all by Hockey East.
Berry won the Hockey East Sportsmanship Award for the second consecutive year to become the third repeat winner of the award since the league's inception in 2003. She is a finalist for UNH's Jim Urquhart Student-Athlete of the Year and the Director of Athletics Leadership Award.
Berry skated in all 36 games with totals of eight goals and 10 assists for 18 points. In the final weekend of the regular season, she recorded three goals and three assists to lead UNH to a sweep of Boston College that lifted the Wildcats past BC into third place in the Army ROTC Hockey East standings. In the Feb. 24 regular-season finale, Berry scored two goals to record her first career multiple-goal game and matched her high of two assists to finish with a personal-best four points.
She scored a goal in UNH's 3-0 Hockey East quarterfinal win against Vermont to extend her goal and point streaks to three games.
Berry was credited with 22 blocks, won 52 of 103 faceoffs for a .505 winning percentage, and had an even plus/minus rating.
Grad student defender Rae Breton (Brighton, Ontario) was presented the Colleen Coyne Best Defensive Player Award; defenders, goalies and forwards are eligible for this award. Breton ranked No. 2 in the nation with a league-leading 91 blocks. That averages to 2.53 blocks per game. In 27 Hockey East games, Breton was credited with 68 blocks for an average of 2.52 per game. She also led the team with a plus/minus rating of +10.
Breton blocked a shot in 31 of 36 games and recorded multiple blocks in a game 25 times, including a high of nine at Maine (Oct. 13). She's recorded 5+ blocks four other times: six vs. Merrimack (Feb. 10) and vs. Providence (Nov. 4); and five both at Holy Cross (Feb. 15) and vs. Quinnipiac (Oct. 7). Breton blocked four shots in both Hockey East tournament games.
Breton tied for third on the team in assists (11) and also scored a goal – the game-winning tally Oct. 13 at Maine – for a total of 12 points.
Breton earned Hockey East Third Team All-Star status in 2024. She was named the Army ROTC Defender of the Week four times and the Defender of the Month for September/October.
Freshman defender Lucie Legro (Brentwood, N.H.) was honored with the Tricia Dunn Most Improved Player Award, which recognizes the player who has improved the most during the season.
Freshman goalie Noemi Martinez (Glen Ridge, N.J.) received the Dr. Allison Edgar Academic Award for having the highest cumulative GPA on the team.
In addition to Berry and Breton, grad students Mikah Baptiste (Ottawa, Ontario) Jada Christian (Caledon East, Ontario) and Tamara Thierus (Saint-Jerome, Quebec), and seniors Kyla Bent (Halifax, Nova Scotia), Nicole Kelly (Brantford, Ontario), Charli Kettyle (Perth, Ontario) and Brianna Legros (New Liskeard, Ontario) were honored as the Class of 2024.

New Hampshire finished the 2023-24 season with 18 wins and placed third in the Hockey East standings with a 14-11-2 league record. It marked UNH's highest league win total since 2009 and the aforementioned 3-0 playoff win against UVM was the program's first home quarterfinal game since 2013.
