#17 Wildcats Fall to #1 Boston College, 5-3

Three different Wildcats found the back of the net.
DURHAM, N.H. – Three different Wildcats scored, but the No. 17 University of New Hampshire men's hockey team fell to No. 1 Boston College, 5-3, on Friday night in front of a sold-out crowd of 6,501 at the Whittemore Center at Key Auto Group Complex in Hockey East action.
The Wildcats tied the game on three different occasions as sophomore forward Kristaps Skrastins (Grobina, Latvia) tied the score 1-1, while senior defenseman Nikolai Jenson (Cold Spring, Minn.) made it a 2-2 game and junior defenseman Colton Huard (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) scored the third Wildcat goal to tie the matchup 3-3.
Junior goalie Jakob Hellsten (Ljusdal, Sweden) recorded 18 saves for the Wildcats.
With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 17-13-1 (10-10-1 Hockey East), while the Eagles improve to 26-5-1 (18-3-1 Hockey East).

- The Wildcats will conclude the series with BC on Sunday, March 3 at Conte Forum at 5 p.m. on ESPN+.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After the Eagles took a 1-0 lead courtesy of Ryan Leonard at 4:05 into the first period, Skrastins tied the game at 7:21 with a shot from the high slot that rang off the inside of the left post with junior captain Alex Gagne (Bedford, N.H.) and freshman forward Marty Lavins (Riga, Latvia) assisting on the goal.
- Boston College regained the lead 2:51 into the second period when Cutter Gauthier scored on a wraparound. The Wildcats tied the game again at 4:31 when Jenson's shot from the point found the back of the net with Gagne and sophomore forward Cy LeClerc (Brentwood, N.H) picking up assists.
- Once again, the Eagles took the lead as Gauthier capitalized with his second goal of the night 11:23 into the period but UNH came roaring back when Huard fired the puck into the roof of the net assisted by freshman forward Nick Ring (Hingham, Mass.) and sophomore forward Morgan Winters (Osprey, Fla.)
- The winning goal was on the power play as Leonard scored at 16:49 and Jamie Armstrong sealed the game with an empty netter at 19:14.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- UNH outshot Boston College, 31-23.
- The Wildcats went 0-1 on the power play and the Eagles went 1-1.
- Hellsten tallied 18 saves for the Wildcats as he falls to 12-10-1 on the year, while Jacob Fowler made 28 saves as he improves to 25-5-1.
