DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire women's hockey team will hit the Whittemore Center at Key Auto Group Complex on Saturday, Feb. 10 to promote mental health awareness and suicide prevention in what has become the annual Stick it to Stigma game.
This is the seventh year UNH women's hockey is partnering with local nonprofit organizations Connor's Climb Foundation and The Benny Fund. M&T Bank joins in support of this year's event as a sponsor.
UNH faces off against Merrimack College on Feb. 10 at 3 p.m. There are 500 free tickets available online by CLICKING HERE before the Feb. 8, 3 p.m. deadline. After the free tickets are exhausted, tickets will be sold for a discounted price of $3 each.
"Collaborating with other organizations dedicated to reducing suicide in our state is the only way to affect change and spread awareness around mental health," said Lindsay Gilbert, Executive Director of Connor's Climb Foundation. "We are excited for the opportunity to bring our community back together once again for this special game."
The Wildcats share that enthusiasm for this event.
"This is an incredibly important event to eliminate the stigma around mental health and helps show our athletes and the community that they are not alone," UNH women's hockey associate head coach Stephanie Jones said.
"Mental health is something everyone should prioritize," UNH grad student and captain Annie Berry stated.
The Feb. 10 game will feature silent auctions of the special edition game-worn jerseys, photo ops, and informational tables from partner organizations.
"We are incredibly grateful to the Wildcat ice hockey family for continuing to hold and grow this special event," said Holly Neiweem, founder of The Benny Fund. "I couldn't be more proud of the coaches and players for setting such an excellent example for their community and for the university. We always want our kids to know that it's okay to not be okay and that they are not alone."
"M&T Bank is so proud to support women's sports with this group of talented UNH hockey players who are making a difference in the community with promoting mental health awareness and suicide prevention," said Katie Rooks, M&T Bank Charitable and Community Relations Manager.
