AMESBURY, Mass. – Freshman goaltender Sedona Blair (Eden Prairie, Minn.) of the University of New Hampshire women's hockey team was named the Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week by Hockey East on Monday. It is the fourth time this season Blair has received this award.
Blair stopped 55 of 58 shots on goal for a .958 save percentage and 1.50 GAA to lead UNH to a home-and-home sweep of College of the Holy Cross on Feb. 15 & 17.
In the 4-2 road win on Feb. 15, she made 11 of her 31 saves in the third period, including three when Holy Cross was skating with a 6-on-4 advantage late in the third period. It marked the 11th time this season Blair recorded 30+ saves in a game.
Blair turned aside 24 shots in the 2-1 win at the Whittemore Center at Key Auto Group Complex on Feb. 17. The goal against the rookie netminder was scored five seconds after a 5-on-3 power play ended but with the Crusaders still on a power play. HC pulled its goalie in favor of an extra skater with 95 seconds remaining in the game, but Blair stopped both shots the rest of the way to preserve the victory.
Blair now has 821 saves on the season, which ranks third all-time on UNH's single-season leaderboard. The single-season record is 886 set by then-freshman Ava Boutilier in 2018.
Blair was previously the Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week by Hockey East on Oct. 2, Jan. 15 and Jan. 29. She was also honored as the league's Player of the Week on Dec. 4. Earlier this month, Blair was named to the Hockey Commissioners Association National Women's Rookie of the Year Watch List.
New Hampshire concludes the regular season Feb. 23-24 with a home-and-home series against Boston College. UNH's Senior Day is Friday, Feb. 23 (6 p.m.).
