#17 Wildcats Drop 3-1 Contest at Merrimack

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Sophomore forward Cy LeClerc (Brentwood, N.H.) scored his ninth goal of the season but the No. 17 University of New Hampshire men's hockey team fell at Merrimack, 3-1, on Saturday evening at Lawler Arena in Hockey East action.
With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 14-11-1 (7-8-1 Hockey East), while the Warriors improve to 11-17-1 (4-14-1 Hockey East).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After the Warriors took a 2-0 lead in the first period with goals by Luke Wellandt (11:16) and Alex Jefferies (12:54), the Wildcats cut the deficit to 2-1 at 15:07 when LeClerc scored on a wrist shot from the point for the power play goal. Senior Nick Cafarelli (Middleton, Mass.) and freshman forward Ryan Conmy (Alexandria, Va.) each posted an assist. The goal was LeClerc's ninth of the season.

- The second period went scoreless as each team took four shots.
- The Wildcats went with an empty net with 2:04 remaining in the third period but with 30 seconds left Filip Forsmark scored in the empty net for the 3-1 final score.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- UNH outshot Merrimack, 22-20.
- The Wildcats went 1-3 on the power play and the Warriors went 0-2 on the power play.
- Junior goalie Jakob Hellsten (Ljusdal, Sweden) recorded 17 saves for the Wildcats and is now 9-8-1 on the year, while Hugo Ollas tallied 21 saves for the Warriors and improves to 5-7-0.
