DURHAM, N.H. – Redshirt junior goalkeeper Sally Rainey (West Lebanon, N.H.), senior forward Meghan Guarente (Sewell, N.J.), and junior back Maddie Kolb (Tolland, Conn.) of the University of New Hampshire women's soccer team have earned 2024 United Soccer Coaches Division I All-Atlantic Region honors.
These three America East major award winners played pivotal roles in leading the Wildcats to a runner-up finish in the America East Championship and have now earned regional recognition for their standout seasons. Rainey and Guarente were named to the Second Team, while Kolb received Third Team recognition.
Rainey, a co-captain, was named America East Goalkeeper of the Year for the second straight season, making her the only UNH goalie to achieve back-to-back honors and just the fourth in conference history to do so. She made 52 saves over 1,620 minutes, including a career-high nine saves in a draw against Louisville.
Rainey led the conference in shutouts (nine), including five against America East opponents, and recorded the league's best goals-against average (0.778). Nationally, she ranked 20th in GAA and 22nd in shutouts. For the second consecutive year, she earned CSC Academic All-District, America East All-Academic, and First Team All-Conference honors. She is also a CSC Academic All-America finalist, advancing to the national ballot.
Guarente was named the America East Striker of the Year, becoming just the fourth Wildcat to earn this honor. She led the conference with six game-winning goals, ranking fourth nationally in that category. Her 10 goals were the most among America East strikers, and she finished third in the league in total points with 22. Guarente tallied multiple points in eight games this season and was selected to First Team All-Conference.
Off the field, she earned spots on the America East All-Academic Team and the CSC Academic All-District Team for the third consecutive year. Guarente is also a CSC Academic All-America finalist and will advance to the national ballot for voting.
Kolb was named America East Defender of the Year, making her just the second student-athlete from UNH to earn this honor. Kolb started every game this season, playing the full 90 in all but two matches, anchoring a backline that allowed the fewest goals in the conference (10) and helped UNH achieve the best goals against average in America East. She helped UNH shutout nine of its 16 regular season opponents, anchoring a defense that only allowed 8.1 shots per game, with only 3.9 of those on target. Kolb recorded one assist this season and was also selected to First Team All-Conference.
