Shya Walker scores her first goal as a Wildcat

DURHAM, N.H. – Graduate student Shya Walker (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored the first goal of the season for the Wildcats as the University of New Hampshire women's soccer team tied Stonehill, 1-1, on Thursday night at Wildcat Stadium in the home opener.

The 'Cats are now 0-1-1, while the Skyhawks are 0-2-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

· The first half went scoreless as the Wildcats outshot the Skyhawks 6-4, while UNH had three shots on goal and Stonehill took one.

· The 'Cats took a 1-0 lead in the 60th minute (59:02) when junior midfielder Elizabeth Finn (Scituate, Mass.) sent a pass to Walker who scored on a one-timer from five yards out for her first goal as a UNH Wildcat. Junior forward Natalie Zibinskas (Kensington, N.H.) also earned her first point as a Wildcat with an assist on the goal.

· The Skyhawks tied the game at 1-1 in the 71st minute (70:46) when Hannah Anselmo blasted a shot from 18 yards out to the upper left corner of the net.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

· UNH outshot Stonehill, 10-7, while the Wildcats had six shots on goal and the Skyhawks recorded two.

· The Wildcats attempted three corner kicks and the Skyhawks took two.

· Sophomore goalkeeper Caroline Cohen (Glastonbury, Conn.) made one save during the first 45 minutes and junior Sonja Zeepvat (Mendham, N.J.) played the second half for the 'Cats. Allie Sougaris recorded five saves for the Skyhawks.
